The very representative place to stay for if we want to climb at Ijen. Nicely staff, hot water and food in an ancient original building of Nederland styles. Coffee, is the greatest flavours we can get here with both of Arabica and Robusta freshly from the roaster...

Old fashioned one

We stayed overnight here on a journey to Ijen. It’s a large, old-fashioned (in its furnishings and layout) Java homestay hotel. We were in two large rooms, with a common living room. Each room had its own bathroom, and there was adequate WiFi.  It’s too bad someone couldn’t invest some money to update the place with newer furniture, drapes, beds, etc as it has real potential and a lovely setting. But it met its purpose for our needs, was comfortable enough, and the staff were accommodating and friendly.

Large rooms, pleasant but could use updating

Let me start by saying that compared to the other options in the area, this is your best bet for a good nights sleep. You have your own washroom and the common area is actually pretty beautiful. 

Bear in mind you are in rural Java, like way out in the sticks. You will likely be driving to get there at night as it's a long drive from any city to get to kawah ijen and it is super close to the base camp so you don't have to get up any earlier than you already have to.

Okay yeah the beds were not premium quality and the bathroom was sort of spooky for any western travellers tastes, but it was a unique experience if you are only there to get a few hours of sleep before you take the big trek to the crater.

You're not there for amenities, luxuries but you are there for convenience! They have wifi and the staff is so so so nice, and they even speak English and will provide you with dinner whenever you arrive and a packed breakfast to take with you to ijen at your ungodly wake up call.

I'm not going to say this is the four seasons of rural Java by any stretch but it totally serves its purpose and we were so lucky to stay here compared to the other options for accommodation in the area. If you get cold when you sleep I suggest you bring a blanket of your own

Okay, what the other reviewers say is true, BUT...

We stayed here because we did a tour to Ijen and the tour was including a night here.
After all the stories we where prepared on a budget accomodation, but this was even worse.
The rooms are dirty, the toilets leaks, the walls are crumbling down and full of mold. The windows couldn´t be closed. The staff was very unfriendly,.. Beds are fully worn down.
We are glad we ate dinner somewhere in the little village and not here. It was expensive and didn´t look good, like everything else..

Worst place ever

The reviews are true: this place is not great.
First impressions are quite good. This place could be okay; the rooms are quite big, we had a single and a double bed, which weren't the worst we have slept in, but the pillows smelled and we didn't go under the sheets. There was mould on the ceiling and the toilet wouldn't flush and there was literally a slug sliming it's way up our bedroom wall. 

They offer a shared meal for Rp60k for dinner which was okay.
Luckily, we only needed a place to lie for a few hours before heading out to Mt Ijen at midnight. Would not like to spend a night here.

If you are not too squeamish or fussy, this place does the job, due to lack of options, as it is not particularly cheap for what it is.
