Previous reviews were on dot in terms of most comfortable stay& away from crowded ambience.Our stay in Athena Homestay was very homely with excellent food,specially got to taste traditional veg food served piping hot& heavenly Coorg Coffee served with great care & affection by the host family!!Surrounded by coffee plantation, lake right in front of the house and with amazing water falls within few kilometers. Must not miss both Mallali & Abbey falls! Enjoyed inspite of heavy rains!But would suggest to prepare well with raincoats not umbrella's( it flew away!!)& proper shoes etc. Choose the best season if u want to spend more time leisurely

My husband and I stayed at Athena Homestay for 3 nights from 7th Dec till 10th Dec morning. At first, I was not sure what to expect as the reviews on TripAdvisor were from 2016. However, the stay turned out to be very comfortable indeed. The homestay is located in front of a small lake called Gowrikere not far from Shanthalli village. Sagar called us beforehand and gave us directions since there is not Airtel network as we approach the place; we also used Google maps which worked just fine. Sagar ( who actually works in Bangalore and visits most weekends) and Jnanesh were both in Bangalore (they came on 8th night) when we arrived but their father Mr Srinivas and the cook Prakash took excellent care of us. In fact, we were the only guests for the whole duration due to a family function next door (Gowrikere Homestay) on the 10th. Our Booking.com deal included half board (breakfast and dinner) and it sure was worth it. The room was clean and comfortable. There was no fan but there was an air cooler which we did not need as the weather was just fine. Breakfast and dinner included Coorg and Malnad fare and was absolutely delicious. 
There are a lot of birds around due to the lake and plantations. The family is very welcoming and take care of your needs. 
Malalli falls, Pushpagiri (we did not go there), Bisle Ghat view point and Manjarabad fort are all within driving distance and will keep you occupied during the day. 
We will definitely go back there in a heartbeat if we visit that part of town again. Thanks Mr Srinivas, Sagar, Jnanesh and Prakash for making us feel at home!

The location of the homestay is in the remote part of somvarpet. Homestay owner (Mr. Jnanesh) gave easy directions and was very helpful and escorted our car to their homestay. 

The place has nice plantations and great flowers. During night we could see fireflies at the place. The place is close to Mallalli falls and Pushpagiri hill and good spot to stay if you plan for these destinations.

Best part of homestay was food. It was the best food I had in sometime (truly home food). Many thanks to Mr.Jnanesh's mother.

I found this place on Google,while searching for the home stay near Mallalli falls Somwarpet. I got in touch with the owner directly for the booking. Athena is a delightful little home stay nestled amidst a coffee plantation & around a lake, Its a beautiful place for a weekend getaway. I stayed here for 2 days with family and had good time without noisy city life, TV, Mobile. It is one of the beautiful and pleasant stay that I would remember. Enjoyed the traditional food and coffee from their own estate with homely treatment. The rooms were quite big clean. 

Mallalli falls, Pushpagiri peak are the nice places to visit when your here. 

We can not forget the service from Jnanesh and his family there will make sure that you have a comfortable stay.

“Just the right place to get away from busy life in metros”

First off, Jnanesh and Sagar who manage Athena have been very friendly and available for any requests. The food they offer is also very good and of a very high quality!

The location is good as it is on the way to Mallali falls and pushpagiri/kumara parvata.

But, a stay at this homestay was 3000 rupees, which I felt was very high for the kind of accomodtion and facilities provided - in fact I suggested the same to Jnanesh.

The room was suffocating with very dim lighting. There was only one low power cfl lamp but on request, Jnanesh replaced another incandescent bulb with a second cfl lamp in the room - even then the room was depressingly dim.

There were cigarette butts in the bathroom but when I pointed this out to Jnanesh he took note of it.

There were 2 double cots in the room with not much place to walk around. There was also no view from the room.

Please note, that there was no network either for airtel or tata docomo during our stay.
