Grand Guesthouse Gardakot

The place is from a fairy tale. Cute and cozy rooms, elegantly furnished. Common space with a fully equipped kitchen offers tea, coffee, sugar, honey, fruit and sweets - anything one may need after a long trip. 
Breakfast is included and we should have spent more time to try all the goodness: freshly baked buns, rye bread, crackers, icelandic cheeses, salmon from the river, farm eggs, homemade jams and chutney. The hostess is the nicest person ever. 
The guesthouse is off the main road so it is nice and quiet. An extra value is puffin lookout from the dyrholaey light house point.
I recommend with all my heart, I would be happy to come back.

We loved this cozy, clean farmhouse just 7 miles from Vik. Fabulous breakfast, comfortable beds and very warm. Our host Eva was charming, funny and full of helpful tips. We used this as our base to explore Vik. 

One of the highlights of our trip. We generally do not stay at guesthouses (we are hotel kind of people) but the Grand Guesthouse was comfortable and accommodating for the two nights we stayed. One reason is because of Ieva - she is simply lovely! The food was great and it is in a great location to explore the area. Oh, and it is a phenomenal place to catch the lights.

This was one of the most comfortable and welcoming places we stayed on our 2 week trip around Iceland. Upon arrival, a friendly dog "greeted" us in the parking area. Check in was super easy - key and local information waiting for us upon arrival. Room was extremely comfortable and spacious (we had room downstairs). Breakfast was one of the best we had in Iceland. Home baked goods served with cheese and meats and preserves. Hot griddle cakes were freshly made and served family style. The host served breakfast and offered many useful tips and suggestions about the area.

The location near Vik was good. The Guesthouse was lovely, beds were comfortable and the breakfast was outstanding.  It was great chatting with fellow travelers and the fun staff member over breakfast.  And the sheep strolling down the road made it truly Iceland!

We booked as a group of 7 (for a wedding) and had the guesthouse to ourselves. Accommodates 8 (2 to a room). 3 bathrooms with shower sink and toilet.
Owner Eva was extremely gracious! She met us on arrival and baked a wonderful bread cake for us to share in the morning.
Full kitchen and sitting area. Coffee, tea and milk were provided; uncertain if this is the norm, but I suspect so. Nearest market is in Vik, 20 minutes ride.

Scenery is tremendously beautiful!

What a wonderful stay at Grandhouse Gardakot.  We stayed 2 nights in the ground floor with bathroom suite.  Eva gave us permission to use the kitchen.  The surroundings were peaceful and the room very comfortable.  Eva prepared a wonderful breakfast for us each morning with homemade bread, smoked salmon that her husband smoked, smoked lamb from their farm and delicious pancakes.  The location was perfect for touring the area.

We highly recommend Grand Guesthouse Gardakot. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay there. Eva is a wonderful hostess (and a very talented artist). The breakfast offerings were plentiful and delicious.  If you choose Grand Guesthouse Gardakot, you are guaranteed to have an excellent experience.  And, if you are lucky and visiting in the fall or winter, you may even have the thrill of seeing The Northern Lights!

Stayed two nights in the ground floor ensuite. Very comfortable and everything worked perfectly. Tastefully decorated and you can hear the ocean from your open window. Eva serves an amazing breakfast that includes organic bread baked that morning, eggs from her own chickens, jam she made herself and smoked, salted lamb from her farm. I would stay here again.

Me and my wife stayed 2 nights at Grand Guesthouse (G/F room with bathroom) and I fully agreed with all favorable comments by earlier reviewers.

The goods:
1) Eva the extremely friendly & helpful host
2) Her homemade breakfast every morning
3) Convenient location / very close to major attractions 
4) Nice clean and very new rooms

The not so good...
1) The breakfast was so good that I over ate... :)
2) can't really think of any...

Will definately stay again in future.

Great Guesthouse!

We stayed here for two nights when in the Vik area. The guesthouse consists of four rooms, each of which sleep two people.  There are two rooms on a floor.  We had the family room, which consisted of both rooms upstairs as well as the upstairs bathroom, which meant we had a private bath for our family.  The staff welcomed us with a homemade dessert upon arrival. We liked that our family could have our own bathroom upstairs. The beds were very comfortable, and the family slept well both nights. My father had concerns about the low ceilings in his room since there is a slanted ceiling, but this concern didn't impact the remainder of the family. The house is clean, and is quite beautiful. The decorations are nice, and there's a lot of great artwork throughout the house. The breakfast itself did the job to get the day going. The breakfast options were oatmeal, cornflakes, different grains, and a wide variety of breads and pastries. There's home made jams to accompany the pastries and breads. There were also mini pancakes and some rolled up turkey and ham. There were a few hard boiled eggs as well. During our two days at breakfast, we ate with other people staying at the B&B, and compared our itineraries through light conversation. The breakfast was a good start to the day, but did not include the smoked salmon and lamb that others mentioned in prior reviews. Breakfast is at 8am, and that timing worked well for our family, who was trying to get a fairly early start to our day.
