Helluland Guesthouse

Our family of 4 really enjoyed our 1 night stay with Helluland Guesthouse, and they have Icelandic Horses right next door! They also have homemade sweaters & other souvenirs, and the most beautiful scenery! We used the kitchen, with plenty of room for guests, to make our meal, and we truly enjoyed the view at the dining room table. The road to come in is a gravel/dirt road, so take your time,  Enjoy!

This lovely horse farm guesthouse is a bit off the beaten path, much to our delight. We enjoyed chatting with our super friendly host, Kristoffer, and wandering along the pastures looking at the horses. Our room was large enough but cozy. Breakfast was typically European, right down to the egg cups for the soft boiled eggs. The house was very clean and we appreciated being able to use the kitchen. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a quiet location. 

Perfect place for riding, birdwatching,fishing, walking in the mountains.
The house has a splendid view over a beautiful bay surronded of mountains.
It is situated  very calm, no trafic at all, end of a little road.
From the house  can  you walk direktly  up in the mountains, whitch for me who are swedish  reminds me of the wilderness in the north of Sweden.
Riding on black lava beach.Birdwatching. Fishing. Aurora,( the northern lights). Highlights of the place!
Friendly atmosphere , you feel that you are at home!

Very clean with nice decor and spacious common areas with a casual and cozy atmosphere. Staff was very nice and helpful, allowing us to store our food in the fridge and accommodating our late check-in. There are also horses on the farm and riding opportunities available nearby. Breakfast was a good spread of skyr, cheese, bread and sandwich makings (cucumber, tomatoes, cold cuts) as well as oranges (rare!) and boiled eggs. Beds were comfy and bathroom was small but clean.

A quiet night in the country

House with a view.

Nice Stay Off the Beaten Path

Gorgeous scenery at the front of this old farm house which is now a small hostel with around nine beds. Great base for touring and walking.  Horses everywhere, flowers and berries.  Well equipped kitchen although no instructions as to how to use the ovens or hob.  Some folk are not familiar with these.  We couldn't see a microwave or freezer.  Sunny dining room and small sitting area. We saw that there was a key-safe at the front door but didn't receive a code for it.  Fortunately the door was open when we arrived but we got locked out more than once.  No one came when we rang the bell.  Not the end of the world.  There was a bit of a stampede for the two bathrooms when eight/nine people have morning needs.

Wonderful setting

Some good things.....

(1) Lovely setting and view
(2) Very clean
Nicely appointed common rooms.

Some bad things

(1) No breakfast or other food and at least 15 minutes drive away from restaurants
(2) Only one tiny bathroom shared by five or so guest rooms.
(3) Smallish rooms
(4) Very reasonable price for what it is.
(5) Decent wifi in common areas--very weak in rooms

If you are expecting a hostel, you will love it.  If you are expecting a hotel, you will be disappointed.  On balance, it is great for what it is, but disappointing for what it is not.

Hard to know what rating to assign

We where staying at Helluland Guesthouse 26.6-28.6.

The room was nice  location good.  I didn't read the email from Helluland sent me well enough about the breakfast(I woke up really early to get breakfast,  no breakfast.  My mistake not reading the email well enough).

But the worst thing, it was really cold days at the soccer tournament in Sauðárkrókur,  but the room we stayed in at Helluland Guesthouse was really really cold, no heat in the room. It really damaged our experience at Helluland and we were not happy to come in a very cold room after long and cold day at Sauðárkrókur watching our daughter in soccer tournament. 

We stayed two nights and both nights was very cold. We had to sleep in warm underwear.
