Steiner Guesthouse is located a short trip (10 minutes by car) to the Blue Lagoon and about 25 minutes from the Keflavik Airport. We booked the studio room. It is located on the ground floor off the front of the house with a private entrance. It had a queen bed and a sofa bed, small table with four chairs, microwave, one burner stovetop (we did not use) and small refrigerator. There was also a private bathroom in the studio room. I only went in the main house (where the other rooms are located) to meet the other guests so no opinion on those rooms. No one available at check-in but you will receive an email a couple of days before arriving. The email met our needs so had no need to contact anyone on arrival. Overall, it is clean but bathroom could use a little work. Our key was in room door upon arrival. For the price we were satisfied for our family of four (two adults and two kids).

Reasonably Priced and close to the Blue Lagoon

Simple accomodation but enough for short stays. We stayed just for one night after landing at Keflavik airport in the evening. The house has 5 rooms in total, 2 shared bathrooms and a communal kitchen. We did not meet the host as we got e-mail directions for self check-in (very convenient option if you arrive late at night). Room no. 4 (upstairs) was tiny and clean - bed, washbasin, some place to hang the clothes and few cabinets along the wall. Not much space to move around so not very comfortable. You leave the shoes at the entrance. 

Shared bathroom was good, with hot shower and generally clean. Kitchen also OK, with some complimentary food from the host to use for breakfast if needed (but do not think the breakfast is included in price - just some food to share like butter, jam or cereals) what is a nice gesture.

There's a small parking in front of the house. 

As for Iceland standards, the price was great (I used discount code from one of US online booking agents) but accommodation can be recommended rather for short stays.

Good for short stay

We stayed one night. Very comfortable bed. There is a sink in the room. Bathrooms are downstairs. Shower is nice. House is clean and WiFi works fine. There is no staff in the house but we got clear instructions by mail.

Nice plaxe

We stayed here two nights -one at the front end of our trip and one at the end of our trip. I'm giving this "hotel" 2 stars because the first night was fine. There was no one there to check us in and the front door was unlocked. There were four open rooms with keys in the doors, so we looked at the rooms and went into the one with a double bed and two twin beds because that is what we reserved. The next day there was no around, so we left the key on the desk in the main room to check-out. 

The second night was a mess. 

Again, there was no one around to check us in. The front door was unlocked. We arrived at 10:30 pm for our second night (three days after our first night) there was no one around and the doors of all of the rooms were "locked" (we didn't check, they just didn't have keys) except one. This room had two twin beds. We reserved a room with a double bed and pull out. We are a family of four with two children ages 12 and 4. 

We didn't know what to do and tried using the community phone to call someone. About 25 minutes after arriving a woman showed up and said that we were actually in the studio and gave us a key. We went into the studio - it was late and we had an early flight. The studio had one towel - a dishtowel (even though we had a bathroom with a shower). Dirty coffee cups were in the sink. Someone else's garbage was in the trashcan. 

As we were all getting ready for bed at about 11:30 someone started to unlock our door. SOMEONE ELSE HAD A KEY TO OUR ROOM. It was a pair of women who said it was their room. We showed them a note we found that said "You're in room 4" and the baggage that was sitting in the entryway of the house. The women said that someone packed up all of their clothes, all of their things and put it there, as it was in our room when they left. The room with two twin beds must've been theirs. 

Two things to note in this review: 
THERE IS MORE THAN ONE KEY FOR EACH ROOM. (There's another review where this is mentioned too. They also had someone enter their room in the middle of the night. They claim that all keys work in all doors. I can see how this may be the case. 

THIS IS AN UNSECURED HOUSE, NOT A HOTEL. It's an open house with a clean enough communal area, but the front door is open at all times and there is no one on staff there at all times. It's described as "efficient check-in", but it's really a situation where you get there and find your own room. 

I would not stay here again, as I feel there are some major security issues.

Not Secure.

We booked this guesthouse for a three night visit to Iceland. Our first night was ok. The bed was comfortable enough and we were happy to have a private room to rest our heads. We like our space and privacy, so we decided to spend the extra money to stay in a guesthouse with private rooms and locked doors, rather than a hostel where anyone can have access to your personal belongings. 

We were in room #1, on the first floor. The key that was given to us to access our room had a tag with "#4" on it, which I found slightly odd, but didn't dwell on too much. I also found it strange that the front door of the guesthouse is never locked - day or night. (So the common areas are accessible to absolutely anyone who might walk in.)

On the second night, I was awoken from my sleep at 1 AM by the sound of someone at our (locked) bedroom door. My first thought was that another guest had the wrong room. Of course, I assumed that they would not be able to open our locked door and would go away. They kept trying to get in and would not go away, so I started to yell "Hello? We are in here. This room is occupied. Hello?", but they kept twisting the handle. When I heard the lock click open, my heart sank. I shook my boyfriend awake just as the door opened and a man entered our room!!!!! We screamed at him to leave. Once the strange man heard my boyfriend yelling he quickly left the room, although he had been ignoring all of my shouts at him to stop trying to enter the room. 

We were unable to sleep for the rest of the night, knowing that our room was not secure. The next morning we packed our bags and told the worker we were leaving. I asked for a refund for two nights (the night that we were imposed on and the final night that we would be leaving). I asked her how this could happen, and she admitted that all of the keys were kept in an unlocked drawer in the main area of the house. She also admitted that when she arrived at work she noticed that the drawer looked as though someone had been in it. Clearly, every room in this house can be unlocked by the same key, which is why the "#4" key worked fine for my room, "#1". 

I still have no idea who the man was, but I do not think it was another guest from the guesthouse. I think a man from the town was perhaps drinking and walked in off the street, found the key with "#1" on it and figured he could crash for the night in room #1. 

The guesthouse refunded me for one night only and now will not answer any of my emails. They have not apologized or made any attempt to explain to me what happened. 

This property and its owners have no regard for their guests' safety or comfort. You are just as well getting a bed in a hostel for half the price, because you definitely will not be guaranteed privacy or security if you stay at this guesthouse.
