Hotel Gran Shalom II

I loved this hotel because it is the only one in a quiet location away from the noise of downtown Nebaj. The swimming pool I used only once because it was SO COLD in February when I stayed. I LOVED the steam room, too bad there is a 50 Quetzal charge every time you use it so if you are backpacking it is costly. It does not come with your stay but they give you a free one time use of it-though it was upsetting that the elderly man Betelio tried to charge me after I was invited to use it for free by Josue another worker. I loved sitting by the fire in the lounge and I liked walking around the property which has a lush garden and several trees. What I enjoyed most about my stay was that I was left alone which is what I like. I don't like to be bothered woken up early by housekeeping so for this I am grateful. Also in most hotels if their are male workers staying there they bother and harass me for being a pretty woman. This did not happen happily at Casa Shalom. whenever I asked for something most of the staff with the exception of*B(V)etelio the older man were so nice. The guys really tried hard to please. The steam room was needed as it was so cold and I woke up with sinus headaches as a result. The steam helped me. I would have liked to use the steam room more often. When I return I will definitely pay to use the steam room every night. The price was perfect and one of the workers said they were raising it on another booking site. I hope that is not the case because I am rating it 5 stars because of the value of the service, and room in proportion to the price. I think the price was fair given that the sauna and pool were not included. The dessert I had there was really good just your basic sweet Platanos(oplaintains) but yummy. It is really a nice spot in the Cuchumatanes. The only suggestion I have is to change the mattresses as my bed was actually lopsided in room 8. Otherwise, I recommend it greatly.:)
