Villa Cavo d' Oro

Villa Cavo d’ Oro In the hills above the town of Coressia is the small hotel of Villa Cavo d’ Orso. A series of terraces, connected by stone paths and carved staircases, hold the several buildings that comprise the hotel, each building hosting only two units for privacy and solitude. The view: outstanding; of the town below, the harbor adjacent or the Aegean sea beyond. The host and manager is charming and attentive, offering a personal escort to the room, while explaining the nuances of staying on a small island. The road to the hotel is scenic as it winds around the hill, climbing, sometimes gently, sometimes steeply, to the hotel. While it can be walked within 15 minutes, the walk up feels more like 30 minutes. There is a “path” that is more direct. The path is unpaved and ungraded, sometime only sightly wider than the footsteps, with the upper part converting into stairs as it reaches the first terrace. The room was elegant, completely the opposite of the rustic, rough hewn exterior. Tastefully decorated and pristine. The simple furnishings met all the needs while maintaining a a spacious feel. The linens were tastefully displayed, as were the assortment of tourist pamphlets. The bathroom products were reminiscent of a boutique hotel. The shower offered two options, the rain water head or the portable wand. The hot water, solar heated in 55 gallon drums, was hot and plentiful. The fixtures, windows and appliances appeared to be new. The room has wifi, AC and a television but the terrace seats provided that evening's viewing. The windows and terrace doors did not have screens, however the island lacked bugs. Sleeping with the window open was not an issue. The 5AM rooster alarm was taking the rustic nature too far, although I doubt it was intentional. A beautiful hotel with a manager available via phone at all times.
