Kalithea Horizon Royal

I have always used these reviews when deciding on my choice of hotel and often take them with a pinch of salt as people’s expectations can vary so much. They do prove useful and hence I feel it only fair I add to the library. We stayed at the Kallithea Horizon Hotel on Rhodes for 2 weeks at the beginning of October (our second visit 9 years after our first) and can confirm many of the previous reports that you will not be disappointed spending a holiday here. Arriving late in the evening we were given a drink and escorted to the restaurant for a late supper. After that check-in at the hotel was super quick. There are numerous outdoor pools but you need to be an early riser to get a bed next to some of them however we always got a bed close to where we preferred. There is a beach at the bottom of the cliff which was lovely to swim in, however, the sunbeds do not belong to the hotel and hence there is a daily charge. Also, the sunbeds are close together. We had no complaints about the all-inclusive drinks as everything we tasted was excellent and cocktails were made fresh not poured from a jug. There are two main restaurants and the one we preferred was near the cliff edge with great views, however, at times it did get very busy and was difficult to find a seat. The second restaurant at the top of the hotel was large but for us not as welcoming, more frantic and a little more like a canteen. There are also 3 other snack bars if you want to eat during the day. One night in the cliff top restaurant there was an accident when plates were dropped on the floor and it seemed like the cleaner was on hand even before the plates hit the floor, very impressive. All staff were fantastic, really friendly. The hotel was spotless. Our room was always very clean and a good size, Air conditioning worked perfectly. No problems at all with mozzies. The entertainment was the best we have ever encountered at a holiday hotel with tribute acts (Abba, Beatles, Drifters to name but 3) and some outstanding classical singers. If only hotels elsewhere had this standard of entertainment. My only slight criticism was finding somewhere to sit. There were always two different acts each night at either end of the hotel. There is an animation team providing entertainment during the day. We loved the Boules/Patang but were not great fans of the loud music that accompanied the pool-based activities. The weather was hot and sunny and more than one could have hoped for at this time of year. The outdoor pools were not heated and felt cold to get in but one soon acclimatised and enjoyed. We were fortunate that the weather was so good there was no need to try the heated indoor pool. We didn’t go on any organised trips, however did catch the bus to Rhodes town and another to Lindos. Bus fares were very reasonable. The Negatives – Other than the minor issue raised above there are no negatives. Was it a great holiday – Yes. Would I recommend – Yes, It’s a lovely friendly hotel. Book it with confidence.
