Aux Blés d'Or

The good: very nice room design, very romantic and clean. The location is great: our room had a view over a lake and the Pierrefonds castle was in 5 min walking distance.
The bad: the bathroom was a bit shabby, no lift but only stairs, otherwise everything was as expected.
Overall a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights, while attending a wedding in the Abbey of Notre Dame in nearby Morienval. The hotel is only two star, so one cannot expect luxury, but the lady in charge was very friendly, and helpful, and the accommodation was satisfactory. There were negatives in that it lacked a lift, the parking is only on the public road, and there wasn't any air conditioning, which I suspect might be a problem at the height of summer.

The breakfast was not included in the price, but was fine.

One problem is that the front door is shut between 12:00 noon and 6:00 p.m., so one must use a code to enter. Obviously this is OK, except when checking in, or leaving.

The location is beautiful, with a lake just over the road, and the castle within a few hundred yards. We are told that the latter featured in the TV series 'Merlin', and it was most impressive.

The village is not on a rail line, there is a bus service to Compiegne, but probably best to go by car.

We had been told that access was limited, so went across the road to the cafe to wait the short time before the door would be open. Our twin room was on the first floor, at the head of a flight of wooden stairs.  Adequate size, clean and with a view of the chateau, decent size bathroom with bath and shower over.  We stayed 2 nights as we were touring the area. Althought we didn't have breakfast, the menu both evenings was varied and the dining room  very pleasant.  I get the feeling that the couple who own it do everything so full credit to them.

A nice hotel in a wonderful location

Lovely hotel, great location

Excellent dinner menu

We arrived at 4pm and the doors were locked. We went back at 5pm (we said we'd arrive between 4-5pm) and they were still locked. I saw 2 telephone numbers and on the second got through to be told there was a key safe.I was given the code and our key was inside. This would not have been a problem if there had been a notice on the door telling you to ring if you had a reservation. Personally I like to be greeted on arrival at a hotel. I had sent a request on booking (through Logis) for a twin bedded room or extra large double as my husband is disabled but this didn't happen and there was no-one to speak to on arrival. The room was very clean and well decorated in a modern shabby chic French style and we had a lovely view of the chateau.

Lovely setting

This is more B&B than hotel. You might call it a restaurant with a few rooms available upstairs. On arrival at 3pm our group was told our rooms wouldn't be ready until 5pm. That was once we found someone to talk to at all that is. "Can I leave a bag?" I asked. "I'm not sure, I can ask" came a reply that was clearly a "non!" We returned at 17.20 to find both entrances locked and no staff on site. No one picked up the phone but we eventually got a call back and some instructions over the phone as to how to let ourselves in to the building and up into the rooms. Said rooms were all showing signs of age and the bathrooms in particular need a freshen up. 
Adequate but very poor value for money. Needless to say we skipped both dinner and breakfast here - a group of 13 happy to take our business elsewhere. 
In summary, nice location, no service, no parking, indifferent rooms and poor value for money. Go elsewhere unless you're really stuck for choice or want to enjoy old style Gallic 'charm.'
