Woikoski Feeling - Kirjokiven Kartano

Kirjokivi Manor - Kirjokiven kartano in Finnish was designed by Eliel Saarinen, who designed Helsinki Railway station also. It was built late 19th century by Rudolf Elving, who was CEO of the Woikoski company. Therefore there are several gas bottles as decoration. Manor was his summer home and saw its glory times early 20th century. Later it was owned by city of Kouvola and worked as a summer camp before current owners bought it and started the endless restoring. Beautifully restored with good taste, however there is no original furniture left. It is located ca 40km from Kouvola, next to Repovesi Nature Park. We were warmly welcomed by the waitress, who also checked us in. Our room was in the of the side buildings, in an old warehouse "Aitta". Room had two separate beds, own bathroom, garderobe and a minibar. It has an air-conditioning, which is very nice during hot summer and gives a possibility for good night sleep. Breakfast was good, with porridge as a hot component and hot tea or coffee. Orange juice was very light, most likely summer cook had read the mixing instructions wrongly. There was also bread and pastry with normal toppings like ham and cheese. Generally I could summarise breakfast with word "healthy". At the breakfast the old Madam of the Manor was present and told interesting stories about history. As the manor is located next to Nature Park, you can make nice hiking trips there. Location by the lake enables water activities, however the rowing boat and SUP boards are rented. Disc golf with 9 holes on the premises is free to use. Sauna is also available against a fee. Summary: Highly recommend to get time machine feeling for old times.
