Fantastic
346 reviewsWe had a wonderful stay at Matava Untouched. Set in a very remote location surrounded by nature and the sea, this is an ideal spot for those looking to disconnect from modern comforts and stress and reconnect with themselves and the bare necessities of life. The Bure we stayed at was simple, comfortable, and beautiful. It runs on solar power so it is really enough for lights only, there was a fan but it barely worked due to this. It wasn't much of an issue as the sea breeze comes in very well even in the lower Bure (which is the one we had) and you'll be up bright and early with the sunrise ready for breakfast. The most special aspect of our stay was definitely the staff that welcomed us like family from the moment we arrived and took great care of us. Sue is a queen, she runs the whole show and cooks every single meal which were healthy, delicious, generously sized, and made with locally sourced ingredients (all veggies from the garden at the resort premises). We asked about traditional foods and the staff kindly prepared a lovo for us and a kava ceremony which we enjoyed with every member of the staff, the other guests, music and dancing. It was truly so special and made saying goodbye quite difficult. We dove two days with Bill the dive master and we had a great time. The first day we focused on the astrolabe reef and it's vibrant beautiful corals, they were so abundant, varied, and healthy it was incredible. Plenty of small and colorful fish and a nurse shark. Our second dive day we asked to go to the manta reef which required and additional fee since it's a bit far away, but the mantas were worth it. We saw 5 of all sizes, some huuuuge ones, so majestic! A turtle and more reef sharks. We loved our dive time, felt very well taken care of by Bill, Thomas the captain, and Corro, and the equipment was in great condition. The boat ladder needs some improvement, it is very slippery and I had to be very careful coming back from the water. Other than diving, there are kayaks available and a small island with a sandy beach right across from the resort. You can snorkel from there and encounter lovely corals, plenty of fish, and we even saw some beautiful eagle rays. This is your best option for swimming in the sea. The pool was unfortunately empty while we were there, we were informed that there was a drought that made it difficult to fill as it uses spring water. All in all we absolutely loved our stay, it was peaceful and refreshing. They encourage socialization with the other guests by seating everyone together during meals, we met some wonderful people during our stay. If you are looking for a genuine eco retreat, this is it, you will not regret it. Thanks again to Sue, Bill, Ma, Tom, Ruben and everyone in the staff for giving us such a warm welcome, you are all full of light ✨
