Apart Hotel Kalonis has a good location, not far from both the city centre and train/bus station, and basically opposite a shopping mall (useful for late-night food when most restaurants shut). My room was well-equipped, with lots of natural light and good air conditioning, which was important in the heat of a North Macedonian summer! What sets this hotel apart however is its staff, who were really friendly and happy to chat to me as a solo traveller. They were also unfazed when a guest of mine broke the room key while trying to turn it, arriving to help within a couple of minutes. Ana on the front desk was especially helpful, with a lot of local knowledge, and told me the best places to go to. Kalonis also offers a super convenient airport shuttle service for €20.
