Shoposki Guest House

We stayed at Shoposki Guest House for 7 days and had the most wonderful time. Imagine, you wake up to the sun gently streaming from the lakeside window. You hear the occasional bray from a neighbour's donkey or the tingling of bells as he walks his sheep outside the house. You sip a tea or coffee on the balcony as you watch the sunlight dance across the lake and highlight the mountainous ridges on the shared Albanian and Macedonian coastline. Eventually, you sit down to a sumptuous, huge feast of a breakfast (partially made up of home-grown and home-made products) before heading out of the village for the day. Or you stay on your balcony to read and sip home-made wine. Whatever you prefer. That was every morning for us for an entire week! We had a comfortable, lovely stay, and fully enjoyed the beautiful scenery, fresh air, wonderful hospitality, tasty food and wine, and slept well. Be aware that the property is in Elshani village which is 2.5 km up on a hill from the main road and lake, but this is a GOOD THING - if you stay right next to the lake it can get noisy from cars and late-night parties, and who wants to bask in car fumes on their balcony at night? There is a little bus that goes directly from Ohrid centre to Elshani (takes 20 minutes and is a fun experience!) and you can easily access the local beaches on this route. All in all, if we ever come to this area again, we'll definitely stay here!
