Hostal Real Colon Aguilar

Basic accommodation, but clean, and with a staff who were very helpful and friendly. Wi-fi was very good, even on the third floor. Water was hot, but took some time to arrive (3rd floor!).   We enjoyed the breakfasts, and the ladies in the restaurant even threw in an extra cup of coffee each for free.  Not at all deluxe, but perfectly acceptable for the price. We enjoyed our stay.

Helpful Staff, Excellent Wi-fi

Pros: decent location, our room #202 had a nice view with doors that opened onto a little balcony, good hot water, spacious, very good wifi.
Cons: a strange drainage pipe in the corner of the room emitting some pretty funky odours, scratchy sheets, really minimalist breakfast.

So all in all OK but nothing special at all for $30 for two people - have to believe there are better options.

Tip: Loja really closes up on Sunday especially at night so plan on eating lunch or else be ready to look around for a fast food option.

OK but i am sure there is some where better for the money

For the price we paid, it was OK. The common areas were nice enough, but the room itself was ropey. Paint was chipping off the walls, it was noisy and the beds were uncomfortable. Plus we could hear the people downstairs very clearly because there was a gap between the bathroom floor and wall. It also let their tobacco smoke through which made our own room smell.

All in all, not terrible but we've stayed in nicer places in Ecuador for the same price or cheaper.

Ropey 

My partner and I stayed here a few days ago and Don't recommend it. Firstly the hostal told Booking.com that we never showed up after we paid cash for the room. This means Booking.com charge us and send them more of our money. So we are understandably annoyed. We'll tell Booking.com and hopefully get a refund. The Hostal is average in its facilities. The guy at the desk gave us a street room just after we asked for a quiet room. This meant my girlfriend didn't get much sleep (she is a heavy sleeper), I had ear plugs so slept a bit better. There is no hot water, even early in the morning. WiFi was non-existent. The Hostal itself is old and run down, pretty basic but thats not unusual in Ecuador. Anyway its the last time I stay somewhere named after part of my a*se!

Criminals - Dont stay here!

The hotel is located close to the Bolivar´s Plaza in the center of Loja, being in downtown is not recomendable to walk around specially at nigth. One of the best things is the breakfast in the coffee place next to.
