Hummingbird Inn

This property was destroyed by Hurricane Maria in 2017.  The guest-house business has not been in operation since it was devastate by Hurricane Maria in September 2017.   The gracious former owner Jean, a native Dominican, also lost her home of 40 plus years..

The Hummingbird Inn is nestled  on a beautiful location surrounded  by an array of trees and flowers in spectacular colours.  The singing of birds and rustling of iguanas make the atmosphere come even more alive.  Not  a wonder it won so many awards for being Eco-friendly.  The owner is very friendly and outgoing;  will go the extra mile to ensure our comfort.  The rooms were clean, well ventilated and at night one can feel the coolness and soothing of the Caribbean breeze.

This site is using the wrong picture for the main hotel image. The inn is actually a collection of two small room buildings ranging up the hill from the main house/restaurant overlooking the sea.  Overall the inn centers on a more pristine natural experience in a prime location, surrounded by fragrant flowers, hummingbirds, and resident iguanas -at a very reasonable price catering to primarily European travelers. The honeymoon suite is truly remarkable. Although the road was devastated during a past hurricane, it was recently repaired, and the innkeeper Jeane drives up many times a day in a sedan without 4x4.The correct website, is www.thehummingbirdinn.com. Numerous day trip excursions include hot springs, black sand beaches, snorkeling near geothermal plumes, and dozens of waterfall hikes. Our family vacation to Dominica was truly an adventure a day!

We did a round trip on Dominica for about 3 weeks and in total stayed at 7 different accomodations.

This was our first accomodation we stayed in and it was really a good choice. Very close to Roseau (and the ferry terminal) it was very conveniently located for our first nights.

We got a very warm welcome from Jean, the Dominican owner. One of us feeling a bit unwell at arrival, we were taken very good care of by Jean. She cooked us a delicious meal, while the restaurant was officially closed. Also we got a lot of interesting information on the local ingredients used for this meal and more general info on the environment/culture of the island. 

The room (#5) was small but very atmospheric and had a very authentic feel. There is a good fan and a mosquito net, which was really a must.
Since we were the only guests at that time we can't comment on privacy. We were also shown the bigger suite which looked pretty too and had a kitchen.
From the veranda there is great view on the Caribbean sea.

The Inn is located above the busy main road but you don't hear traffic near/in the rooms. Only from the restaurant area you notice this. There is a beautifull garden with lots of birds (hummingbirds!) and big iguana's which can be easily observed from the breakfast table.

Included breakfast is very basic, but can be extended with several extra's for an additional price.

Overall we can recommend this B&B.

You may want to save cash by staying at Hummingbird Inn, but trust me! it's not worth it. Lizards all over the room, lights are very dim. place not well kept...Period.
I made reservation for one week; but only spent one night. I moved to another place which cost more, but oh, what a difference it was. The road leading up to Hummingbird Inn is a disaster...you need a 4x4 Vehicle to get there from the main road. No T.V, no radio, no hot water...this place is not ready; and certainly not a place for anyone on Vacation.
