Beichen Hotel

Stayed here for 1 night.  The hotel on google map is known as North Star Hotel in English.  It is situated just diagonally behind the Shenyang North Long Distance Bus Station which I alighted/boarded the Airport shuttle bus.  Location of the hotel is superb as it is located near shopping malls, a huge Carrefour and within 5 to 10mins walking distance to Shenyang North Train Station and Shenyang North Metro Station.  There's also a KFC located just next to the hotel. The hotel, although looks dated from the exterior especially with the big Chinese name, the interior and rooms are actually new and modern.  My twin-bed room, located on the 10th floor, comes with strong aircon, powerful hot shower (no bathtub but comes with rain shower) and strong wifi in the room.  I have no complain about the room facilities.  But do note that the glass panel between the washroom and bedroom do not come with blinds for privacy so although it's a twin room, it is not suitable for non-couple.   The cliental here is Chinese as I did not see any non-Chinese guests at all.  The staff here do not speak English nor are there any English tv channels available.  Been a Singaporean Chinese, I am bilingual so it is not a problem for me at all.   I booked my room from Ctrip English page and it does not come with breakfast.  The buffet breakfast was listed as CNY68 if I wanted to pre-book while completing my room booking.   In the end, I paid only CNY40 when I walk-in for the breakfast.   I realised from TA that the hotel has partnered Ctrip English and Expedia to offer online room booking.  However I think if they are now targeting non-Chinese tourists, the front desk staff needs to be trained, not only to be able to speak basic English but be more resourceful and knowledgeable.  When I handed over the English Ctrip booking printout, the front desk staff asked me why do I give this paper to her?  And thereafter I was been referred to as Ctrip guest and the one with my name spelled in English.  Even i spoke Chinese fluently,  they are not able to provide me with info to any nearby optical shops when I needed to purchase a new pair of contact lens urgently.  In conclusion, I am very satisfied with my room but the staff needs to put in more effort.
