Home Inn Shenyang South Yunfeng Street Road Number Seven

It was a nice hotel for the price and location. In China foreigners are restricted from some hotels for reasons only the Chinese understand. My Chinese partner called ahead to make sure it was ok for me to be there with him. Initially they said ok but then on the day we were to arrive they called and said I was not allowed. After some agitated conversation they agreed that I was ok after all. Curiously though, at check in they did NOT ask to see my passport which is contrary to the norm at any hotel in China. The hotel staff was very friendly but had no-to-very limited English speaking skills. If you have translation on your smart phone you'll have few issues. We picked this hotel because of its proximity to the Shenyang Railway station. There are however, several Home Inn properties in Shenyang and this one was located on Nanjing Street south in an area convenient to shopping, mass transportation, parks and dining venues. There was a RT- Mart (think Wal-Mart, Costco and your favorite grocery store rolled into one giant store) inside of a mall a block away that had everything one would ever need. Overall, the hotel was clean and well maintained, a rarity in Chinese budget hotels. The room was a good sized and had a small window overlooking an alley. The bedding was more Western style, suitably firm but not too hard. The quilt sack, which is unfortunately becoming the norm in hotels word wide, was clean but much to heavy and warm even for the 40 degree nights. The bathroom was typically small but had a good size shower with excellent water pressure and temperatures. Breakfast for one was included in the price of the room and was 18 Yuan ($2.65) for an additional person. Food, standard Chinese fare but with western style pastries and cappuccino, was quite good. The Wi-Fi in the hotel worked well but was initially cumbersome to log onto. Hotel staff will assist if you hand them your phone. Home Inn is recommended but you might need to confirm that you are allowed to stay there before committing. The restriction may not apply to all Home Inn's in the city.
