I got the Kapok room which is on the ground floor (2nd least expensive type). The location is great, right in the heart of the French Concession with nice restaurants and bars within walking distance. Really feels like the heart of old Shanghai. Metro is a further walk away but still reachable. I love such boutique hotels compared to large hotel chains. The rooms are furnished in an oriental style and full amenities. I like the large tub. Pity the pillows are a tad subpar (not enough stuffing). Other than that the service was excellent and security fairly good. They asked me and my guest about our identities when we walked in during our stay. Also they helped me to get a nail cutter when I required it. Kudos. The breakfast was traditional Chinese and tasted pretty authentic. Another plus is that drinks in the mini-bar are complimentary. Also the tea selection is pretty good. In short, I would highly recommend this place though I did get comments that the price was quite steep.
