Nanjing Shuang Men Lou Hotel

I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel. The decor is pleasant, there is lots of seating in the lobby area, and the materials seem to be good quality. It appears to have been renovated fairly recently. The service was quietly competent. While it is too large to be a true boutique hotel, it did remind me a bit of a boutique. The hotel is in a compound that includes the former British embassy. There is a tall, main hotel building, and out buildings with restaurants and meeting rooms. The breakfast buffet was pretty good, though it did not include Western options beyond decent coffee, fried eggs and toast. There was plenty of space in the dining room. When meetings meant there were more guests, the hotel was prepared with plenty of overflow space. My only complaint is that they seemed to run out of milk every day. My room was cleaned promptly each day while at breakfast. The standard room was a fair size, clean and in good condition with good lighting. The bed wasn't hard, though not super-soft, either. The bathroom was very clean, and the shower floor was non-slippery. Provided toiletries were fine, non-brand and lightly or even unscented. The wifi was a tad slow, though a router is provided in each room. While there are several restaurants on site, there does not appear to be a Western restaurant or full service bar. I don't think there is a pool or fitness room. It is not super-luxurious or charming, but has a bit of an upscale feel and a bit of charm. I found it to be a pleasant place to stay and a great value.
