If you are a visiting this area of china don't expect a lot of english language, but you can get by, the hotel is very good and offers fantastic food, the Tesco supermarket is across the road for the people who wish to have some western supplies, its a great city to visit.

This is a classic Chinese style four star, with enough amenities to make the Western traveler comfortable.  The hotel is a "fading glory" but they are in the process of constructing the new version.  Shower is OK - bath towel is exceptional.  The bed was very firm (not my preference).  Good breakfast buffet.  Easy walk to downtown.  I stayed on the fourth floor.  Staff has limited English but were very friendly and helpful.  Some reviewers complained about traffic noise, but I did not notice that at all.  WiFi is free but not the best quality.  Ask for an in-room WiFi adapter.

Happy with our stay. It offered all that you would expect in a hotel. Only challenge was some of the staff had limited English but that wasn't a problem as we were traveling with a friend who spoke the local language . Sure there is traffic noise but I just got use to it. Compared to what you hear when walking in the streets the level of noise in the room was nothing in comparison.

The best Hotel in Fuqing City

The hotel is located in a pretty good location, with access to some shopping across the street. The staffs were very helpful and eager to assist you in any way possible. However, the hotel is old and it shows. Rooms were musty, and the air conditioner in one of my rooms was not working. The housekeeping lady came to check, grabbed the chair from the room, and stepped on the chair to feel the wind coming out of the air conditioner (with her shoes on!!). She came back saying that the maintenance guy didn't know what went wrong, and brought an electric fan along. Since it was late at night and my kids were tired after the trip already, we accepted the instant solution, and tried to sleep -traditional chinese style... on a firm bed with an electric fan. Breakfast was decent, if you like it traditional chinese style as well.

as in recent reviews don't expect actual western comfort.
i stayed in the new block overlooking the main road even with a top floor room the constant car horns and noise make sleeping hard..ear plugs essential. the reason its so noisy is that the window glass isn't sealed to the frame so effectively the windows are open. 
 the hotel staff try very very hard to look after you and the main restaurant is better than i have experienced in other chinese hotels.
it is by far the best hotel in the area but it is where it is, just be prepared for the difference...but as you are in china you already know that...?
