Yoyo Hotel

I was studying Chinese on the cheap for a month in Beijing- and the Yoyo Hotel did the trick. It is certainly a major cut above a hostel (I'm too old for that) and the fixtures in the room were just fine. The bathroom was modern and clean, plenty of hot water, and there's a nice little spa downstairs for a massage if you like. The room was a little overheated, but what the heck, it was winter! It's on a tiny little backstreet which looks sort of scary at night, but is a stone's throw from SanLiTun shopping area, which I enjoyed very much. There are tons of really good restaurants about- and if you like bar-hopping, there is the SanLiTun Bar street which lots of people frequent. There is NO HAIR DRYER in the room- I bought one to use from the shopping mall for very little money. My rate also included breakfast- but many Americans would probably balk at the fare: rice porridge, etc and a few odds and ends.There was an awesome Pacific Coffee across the main road not far from the subway. And speaking of that- the subway was maybe a 6 or 7 minute walk from the hotel and pretty easy to use. Seriously, if you are looking for inexpensive digs without the graduate student vibe, the Yoyo might be a good bet for you.
