Hostal el Nogal Pucón

The manager, Rodrigo, was extremely helpful in helping us check in to the hostal. It was very accomodating to be able to store our bags for the day after we checked out, and he contacted us to retrieve two items that we forgot in the room.

This property and the staff are extremely kind!! They went above and beyond to help us out and make the experience positive. When I asked for a place to do the laundry, they said they could take my clothes and wash them for me!! The kitchen is also well equipped so you can make your own food and the staff is flexible to provide extra blankets or delay check out slightly.  Good rooms with a good amount of space.

TL;DR Best hostel ever!

I stayed here for about a week. The common area is great, including a kitchen, couches, TV, and dining tables. The common area is large and perfect for social gatherings. On top of each room having its own bathroom, there's a bathroom in the common area as well.  

Rodrigo, the owner, gets up early every morning to make sure the common area is sparkling clean. He also places bread and eggs for breakfast. There are free tea and coffee as well. 

I stayed in one of the single rooms. The room was nice and comfy. The private bathroom was nice; the shower was a little bit small, but it wasn't a big deal.

There's a great view of Volcan Villarrica through the windows of the common area. The driveway is enormous and can fit at least five cars. There is ample street parking as well. Wi-Fi is super fast. (~50 Mbps). I was able to get decent speeds from my room, which was located pretty close to the common area. Not sure if that's also the case with the other rooms.

More than any amenities, I appreciated the hospitality! Rodrigo is the greatest! Since he and his family live on the property, he is available at a moment's notice and is always willing to help answer any questions/take care of any room issues. He gave me a phone number that I could use WhatsApp to reach at any time. He has also all the connections--he set me up with an appointment with his barber, as well as directed me to where I could do laundry. He's also familiar with the tourist agencies and can connect you to them. He and I conversed mainly in Spanish, but he does speak English. How well, I'm not entirely sure.

When there was a power outage due to a massive downpour of rain, Rodrigo let me use his mobile phone as a  Wi-Fi hotspot so I could continue working on my laptop. The power came back in a couple of hours, and I don't think these outages occur often. For people who are on vacation, this is not a concern at all; it only mattered to me because I was working and really needed to attend virtual Zoom meetings and really needed Wi-Fi for those two hours. 

Another night, when Rodrigo was barbecuing dinner for his family, he treated me to a heaping serving of it: pork, chicken, and sausage! Although he insisted it wasn't the case, I still think that the serving he gave me was originally intended to be shared between his family.

When I had a canyoning tour pickup scheduled at the hostel, the shuttle arrived when I was in my room using the bathroom. Rodrigo knocked to let me know that it was waiting for me. Good thing, since the driver told me that he thought I wasn't there and was about to leave!

The night before I was due to depart, I had some dirty dishes that I hadn't wash and I also clogged the toilet. I went to bed with the plan of getting up early in the morning to do the dishes and unclog the toilet before packing my bags and making my way to the park in Pucon to catch my shuttle to the airport. I forgot to set my alarm and woke up over an hour later than planned. A few minutes after I woke up, Rodrigo knocked at my door to make sure I was awake. He told me not to worry about the dishes and not to worry about the clogged toilet. He helped me gather my belongings and gave me a ride to the park to catch my shuttle in time. 

In summary, the hostel and the owner are both great; you really are treated like family and it feels like a home away from home. Rodrigo goes above and beyond to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. This was hands-down the best hostel stay I have ever experienced. As I write this from San Pedro de Atacama, I miss Hostal El Nogal already!

P.S. There are a bunch of flags hung up on the walls in the common area, but no American flag yet! Hopefully, the next time I visit, there'll already be one up!

Our visite in this Hostal was a very nice moment ! Rodriguo is a very welcomer person. The room are very perfect ! The wifi is very good ! The kitchen is what do you need. So I recommande this hostal !

This place is located at 15 min. from the centre of the city afoot. Two blocks from two big supermarkets and greengrocers. The neighbourhood is very quiet, peaceful, and secure. Rodrigo is the owner of the hostel who is a wonderful guy, very helpful and he will advise you about everything you want to know concerning the city. It is very quiet inside the building. The rooms are cozy, warm, and you can choose between a private or shared bathroom. The place also has a shared room where you can cook your meals, watch television or talking with other tourists. I really loved Rodrigo's kindness in every moment of my stay there. I also liked having my room warm day and night. Even when I took a visit to water activities such as rafting and thermal waters, he offered to lend me a towel, because I didn't bring one with me. The final night of my trip he invited me to participate in a barbecue. In a nutshell: I would love to come back to Rodrigo's hostel.

There are 2 well equipped and clean kitchens with everything you'll need.
The location is great! Quiet, but central street. Very close to the center (5 minutes walking), to both "Pullman" and "Turbus" bus terminals, and to 3 different big supermarkets (2-5 minutes walking).
We really recommend this place - the best hostel we've had in our 2 months trip.


This is a great hostel, on a quiet street. Just a short walk from the bus station and supermarket and with fabulous views of Villarrica volcano.  Rodrigo is a fabulous host - very friendly and chatty, and on hand to give you advice and guidance on what to do in the area, and how to do it, e.g. what bus to catch, what road to follow. The communal area is large and comfortable and, when we stayed, all residents sat around the dinner table each evening and shared their stories over a few beers or glass of wine. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need, and the breakfasts were super, with lots of choice from breads, yogurts, eggs, cereals... The rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable and WiFi worked great. There is nothing not to like about this place - I would definitely stay again.

I highly recommend staying here. Rodrigo is a great host and his place is clean, friendly and a great value.
Good breakfast, quiet, clean location, and lots of hot water.
A very short walk to the supermarket or bus station makes El Nogal Pocun a winner.

Everything was perfect during our stay. Amazing host and atmosphere. The host was so nice and welcoming with us that we really feel at home! They offered breakfast and drop-off to the bus station early in the morning for free. Highly recommended!

A WONDERFUL PLACE

Our upstairs room was comfortable, warm and had lots of natural light. The breakfasts were generous and included eggs and fresh bread. The location was walking distance to bus stations, many restaurants and supermarkets.
