The Lake Of Bays Lodge

We had a very good experience in this place. 

The hut was very large. There was no air-conditioner but only floor fan in the living room and a ceiling fan in the bedroom.

There was no Wi-Fi signal in the hut.

The kitchen in the hut was fully-equipped so we could buy, storage and make any kind of food.

This was just what we were looking for!  What we wanted was a relaxing getaway for two complete with lake access, a BBQ, firepit, and a place to sleep.

We stayed in a private cabin close to the lake.  The space suited our needs, though I'd consider this as 'rustic' not luxurious.  The king bed was great, and restful sleeps were enjoyed each night.  Our private BBQ on the porch was put to good use during our stay.  Access to the beach was easy - a walk of no more than one minute.  Note that the beach is not touching the water, as to say that it is elevated and there are a few steps from this area to the water.  Plenty of lounge/Muskoka chairs and umbrellas available.  The firepit was a great way to spend the evening.

Ryan and Crystal are great hosts.  One can notice the recent improvements that they've undertaken, and the property is well maintained (for example, pruning trees so that clear views of the lake are presented).  I'll give them credit for the small insect population too, as we did not need much repellent!

I'd recommend this place!  It's not everything to everyone, but it worked great for us!  We'd consider returning next year if we are looking to stay close to home, or perhaps in the winter as they are open year-round.

After having a really bad experience staying at different cottage within a short driving distance we came to the lake of Bays Lodge and were very please and happy to stay at such a nice clean place.  I recommend this lodge.

Amazing place. It has a private beach with canoes and kayaks. amazing scenery. rooms are well equipped.
needs more maintenance and it severly under-staffed. 
Super Melissa does almost everything. She is an amazing lady but again needs more staff.


The Lake of Bays Lodge is a good place to stay. Our room preference was met, although it seemed to be full when we checked-in. 
The lodge is in a convenient location for the park. It was quiet and we had a very good night’s sleep. The room we had was spacious with a very nice balcony and view. Near the lodge there are not so many restaurants. And the ones you find they close quite early. So check ahead.

Great area, peaceful and green. If you like nature, swimming canoeing n doing stuff together, great place. Nice little beach area, dock and firepit. Cosy houses. Friendly manager on the resort. Nice little cornershop and some places to eat. Nearest place for restaurants and supermarket is Huntsville. Mind you, most restaurants close at 21.00.

Good place to stay

I would love to give this property a better review , but it is evident that the current owners need to spend more time and money on this potentially lovely property.

We had stayed a few times at this property, in the late 90's when it was Norloch Lodge and was wonderful , and again in 2008 when it had started to go downhill.
The property is in a wonderful location on the lake, with beautiful views and great waterfront and huge trees.

We gave it a try again in late September in spite of poor reviews, because we had loved it in the past.

Crystal and Ryan are welcoming and helpful, but they face a huge job managing this large property on their own.
Some of the difficulties can be blamed on the pandemic which shut things down until July.  However it appears that the owners need to spend time at , and money on this property.
It is very tired and desperately needs many upgrades.
The units were surprisingly clean for their age, but the carpets are stained and need replacing, the furnishings are old and dated, and some of the dirt is ground in and unable to be removed after years of use.

We had stayed in these suites when they were new and we know how they should look.
The cottages are very old and likely in much worse shape than these newer units.

In these difficult times, we can be a bit forgiving, but please owners either sell this property to someone who wants to care for it, or spend some time and money to reinstate it to its former glory.  Your staff is doing the best it can with the limits they have to deal with.

I would like to come back someday and give it another chance because it has potential to be a great property.

Really missing onsite owners.

Went with low expectations due to some poor online reviews. We were pleasantly surprised! Sure things are a bit outdated and worn, but the staff were friendly. The games room needed a bit of work, only two board games with all their parts, one of the two pool ques was broken, no felt on the air hokey keepers (so it screeched loud when you played) and the Foosball table had no balls and was too crooked to play, but we still had masked up and had fun! Down at the beach they had some kyacks available for guests to play with, life jackets, lots of chairs and umbrellas. We stayed in a two double bed loft, which was nice, more pillows would be about the only thing I would have wanted. Our deck was a fantastic place to be out of the rain, playing uno! I honestly think that maybe if guests took more care with the many things the resort offers, there would be more for all to enjoy. The setting was stunning! All in all, even though it rained for most of our stay, we had fun and would go back.

It’s sad to see that this property has been run down from the last time I was there.  I agree with many,  the place is dirty.  If I could have I’d have taken my daughter and left.  The cottage Was dirty and old.  The carpet was disgusting and I had to do a clean on tables chairs etc.  I washed the utensils and the pans as well.  It was BASIC! No toaster very little items to cook with. Very disappointed.  I was not happy at the expense for what you get.  Money IS NOT worth it. Yes private beach is nice but to be honest Dwight beach is a 5 min a walk so private beach isn’t necessary especially with a child due to the rocks you need to climb into to get in.  But that’s not there fault and pre kid I loved the private beach! I cannot say I’ll be back again, sadly.  Its really in need of major TLC. 

Agree with everyone potential but dirty

First of all want to say that location is just great! The place is very old. But we do not mind old if it is clean! The place is very dirty. The floor was not mopped and dust was everywhere. The room itself was asking :  please clean! I think the owners need to improve cleaning process as you guys have a big potential! The place is amazing! 
Please note that there is no WiFi! The signal is only in the office where you pickup keys from your room. In the room itself there is no signal at all. 

If you want to watch Tv , the one in the room is very outdated and very old. But I think it is not main issue. 

There is a dedicated place where to cook food in your room - which is fantastic! As there is nothing in the steam Although, there is a microwave,  fridge and coffee maker ( bring your own coffee filters as there was none in our room). Coffee was very good! Big thanks! 
There is a small dining area with table and chairs where you can have your dinner. 
The chimney is not working anywhere! Looks like it is not operating for long time....so it is not like on pics that you will stretch your legs on cosy sofa looking at fire.
Sofa and chairs were extremely dirty!  

The blankets on bed were in dirty spots from food and others things...
How you can make a bed when you see that they are so dirty by previous tenants...
Please wash or leave just bedding...
The extra blanket was just crazy dirty...

As I have said the location is great...never mind old furniture and design....but #1 what this place needs is cleaning!!!! 
Please clean it- and you will have return customes! 

Winter stay

Advertised a gas fireplace in the rooms but none of them have worked , apparently since 2018. Was looking forward to the jacuzzi tub too, but it was in the middle of the living area and the water was rusty brown so no joy there either.

Reasonably well outfitted convenience kitchen, so great to have a kettle. But...very grimy place. Dirty doors and windows, floors and sofa also filthy. Wish my husband hadn't lifted the sofa cushions! A walk around revealed  trash around most of the "cabins" which were hideous, only good for a drunk.

And then there was the bed. It was a king as advertised, but a thin, lumpy mattress with no mattress pad, just poor fitting, worn sheets.

So, what was good about it? Clean bathroom (pretty much the only part that was) and the lovely little beach for viewing the sunset. What a waste of a potentially gorgeous place.
