StFX University Summer Hotel

A very pleasant 4 night stay for a sporting event n the summer, beautiful University town perfect for vacationing with beaches at driving distances as well.

It was like staying at a brand new hotel.  Everything new and clean and the college staff were outstanding and attentive

The college students who were the staff fair were so nice and helpful

The hotel was nice, but the bed was very hard and uncomfortable, the room was freezing which was nice on the really hot days, but only one blanket made sleeping uncomfortable because we were freezing. I didn’t realize how far everything was from the hotel. Its great that it’s right on the STFX campus, but Walmart and superstore were a 30 minute walk away, so if you don’t have a vehicle like us it was quite challenging as we were there for a week. However Sobeys and some fast food restaurants were only about a 10-15 minute walk away which is much better, but we needed to get a sweater and some sweatpants from Walmart to compensate for the cold room. Expedia stated that there was a shared kitchen, but we weren’t able to find it so had to rely on microwaveable food and meals which really sucked and made for not so nice a stay. Would have been nice if there was at least a hot plate, but given that it is on a university campus, it makes sense that there isn’t one. The tv didn’t hook up to anything so we couldn’t watch anything which made the stay very boring. Overall, it did what was required, the staff was pleasant, the atmosphere was fine. If there was at least a thermostat in the room to control the temperature it would have be much more enjoyable. It was just so cold from the AC.

I had a nice stay. It was clean and had everything I needed in the room. The bed was quite hard for me but may suit some. The only thing I found very strange is I was with an infant and charged for a bed to put them in for each night which isn’t something that’s ever happened to me before and Iv been travelling will children for 23 years.

Good stay

Wonderful stay at St. FX! Family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids, 9 and 13). Our room had 2 double beds and our own bathroom. Very clean. Free laundry. Within walking distance to Tim Hortons, McDonalds and a couple other restaurants. The building we stayed in was next to the highway but it was super quiet. Campus was nice to get out for a walk. Beds weren't very comfortable for our liking, but good if you like a firm mattress.

The stay was good. We didnt like the idea of separate two rooms and also there was no AC. As informed by the Reception staff the AC did work but it didnt for our rooms. Also the motion light in the hallway was irritating as it would come on and wont die for about 15 mins. Other than that everything was good. The staff was friendly, plenty of parking was available. Washrooms were very clean.

It was very easy getting to the property, as well as checking in. Staff was quite friendly and helpful: a request for a cot was dealt with in less than 10 minutes (and staff set it up themselves!). Room was clean, fridge has ample room, and washroom had everything we needed (we brought our own amenities apart from towels, tissues and soap, and these were readily available). If these are actual dorm rooms during the school year, then students may be spoiled (that’s a HUGE fridge for just one person!). TV provides access to basic cable; it seems someone had tried to access NetFlix before us but only error messages appeared. Several rooms in the building seemed readily accessible and available to lounge in and chat with other guests. Campus grounds are great for strolls, and many fast food/take-out places nearby on James Street (with legendary pizza joint The Wheel virtually only a walk across campus). Only concern: not sure how to set the air conditioning in the bedroom (if one can set it at all), as the evening was warmer than optimal but the air conditioning came on by itself after I was awake and out of bed. Perhaps not the best place to stay if one has kids with them as the rooms aren’t family-sized for play or spreading out (unless one uses the common rooms for play), but I myself would definitely stay here again!

This university residence turns into a hotel in the summer time, and is professionally run.  The front desk staff seem to be uni students, who are knowledgeable and helpful. The room is like a normal hotel room ... bed, desk, chair, bathroom ... but also has a full size fridge.  Everything was clean.  The air conditioning was on full blast throughout the residence and the room was very cold, with no control to change the setting in the room.

Great location ... walk to everything in town

My husband and I were driving around Nova Scotia and visiting Cape Breton and PEI.   We often looked for lodging the same day-cause we wanted flexibility.  Much to our surprise, we stayed at StFX twice--and in the same room.  We checked in at the main desk and then slept in a dorm room-which was fully equipped with private bathroom, refrigerator, microwave, air conditioning and a double bed.  It wasn't fancy...but it was extremely clean...and the price was right for a quick lay over.  So if you ever thought of going back to college dorm life...look no further!


Back to college...just for a night!

We stated here last minute for 2 nights. Staff were so friendly and gave us an early check in when we requested it. Really great facilities for cooking and laundry. Cheap and cheerful! Old tv but great channel selection. This is a great stay for anyone on a budget and needs to refresh from travelling! W

Practical and budget friendly! 

Over the course of the last 4 weeks, my mom and I stayed in lots of different places (including 3 other universities). St FX was the nicest surprise! Two bedrooms with double beds, a kitchenette and private bathroom. And it all looks quite new! Super clean, nice hallways and common areas and friendly staff. So glad we stayed!

Wow! 

We stayed at the dorm for 1 night.  The dorm and room are nice and clean but very basic.  The room is relatively small, with a double bed and 1 desk and 1 chair.  There is also a fridge, microwave oven and kettle.  The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful.

There is really not a not of activities around that area.  It is a 5-mins drive to Walmart if you need some food.  Keep this in mind that it is a student resident and not a fancy place.  It is good for a short stay in terms of value.
