Nice and clean place with great staff. Also great for meeting other backpackers. You just need to be aware that this is a party hostel which means you need to bring your ear plugs if you are only looking for a place to sleep.

Mad monkey is great. Would highly recommend. keo Vyra the restaurant and bar manager was very friendly and great to chat to. The best place to stay in Phnom Penh. No complaints at all. The room was spacious and the outdoor area was great. Good cheap beer!

I came across the Mad Monkey hostel in a hurry and scurry. Kinda ‘happenstance” as they say. I was passing through Phnom Penh (a city I have traveled to often in my career as a communications officer in the past. I was on a writing mission and needed a place to stay last minute for a few nights. It had to be cost effective and safe with a pool to chill at, which I needed badly. In between waiting for my buses and in between leaving Thailand and coming into Cambodia I came across the Mad Monkey hostel online. It looked good and inviting. I gotta tell you the name made me think twice, as an older, professional traveler, I had to laugh at the cute name. What the heck, I said to myself, let’s give it a try.
 
After two nights at the Mad Monkey I can safely say I had no regrets at all with my sejour here. 
 
These are a few of my all-time favourite things about the Mad Monkey hostel:
 
The hostel building:It’s is like an old bungalow house in Sri Lanka or India and quite amazing indeed. I felt the architectural aura and vibe of the building as soon I walked across the little bridge over water that brings you into the hostel. I had to say ‘is this hostel for real?” It feels someone’s palatial Asian house?
 
It’s a secluded private building. There is a ton of comfy furniture to chill on at the Mad Monkey. A sexy conference room (which can be rented for meetings) and an uber chill library to read, do work in and take meetings in – both fully air conditioned and so modern. Makes for a very productive space for a writer like me.  There is even a bird cage chair to swing in. So relaxing … weeeeeee!
 
Pool: A lovely pool awaits you surrounded by trees by the restaurant and bar. It has a mature beach club feel. It is so shady and chill. Nice but not boisterous tunes play at the restaurant bar all day. The perfect place to spend the day in the sunshine recovering from hours of travel or working on your laptop or writing if you are a journalist and author as I am. 
 
Super social (if you want to be): For the younger travelers, there’s a pool party event on Saturday’s which is not to be missed I am told. Boogie woogie baby under the Cambodian moonlight. Plus, plenty of events, if you want to be social. But if you don’t its chill too.
 
The price: For 4 – 6 US dollars a night if you are lucky you get a lovely building and air con bed in a shared co-ed dorm room. It’s a good location for the easy going, fuss free traveler. 
 
Tours: The hostel offers a ton of exciting tours of Phnom Penh, arranged by a third party travel agent. These include, cycling the Mekong Island or Cambodia countryside to sunset boat parties to evening city food tours and visits through the history of the killing fields of Cambodia. My heart was so heavy but aware of the tragic history of this country and its people. Tours at the Mad Monkey are in the range of USD 30 – 50 dollars. 
 
Staff: I found the hostel staff very courteous, accommodating and professional. They gave the hostel a very welcoming and relaxed feel, which means stressed travelers like me looking for a few day’s break, can bask in the sunshine and know that all is communicated well and patiently in order. I arrived late after a long bus journey with a few complications and they eased my check in and night’s stay excellently. 
 
There is a guest relations officer and a lovely welcome beer or juice awaiting you at 6pm on the day you arrive.  
 
En suite bathroom: This was the only hostel I experienced in South East Asia that offered an en suite bathroom in the dorm room. Nice touch especially for beautifying girls, like me!
 
The hostel has a large volume of guests which may place pressure on the hostel bathrooms and I found the bathrooms messy in the larger 12 bed dorms but quite ok in the smaller 6 bed dorms. 
 
The Mad Monkey has another branch in Siem Reap and Koh Rang (beachside) making it an extensive hostel chain with three branches across Cambodia. They also have hostels in Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Australia too.

Hostel life at its exotic and amazing Asian best!

It was a fun experience. The staff were all so friendly and the vibe was very upbeat.

Lovely hostel, stayed in a private room which was very clean and had a massive comfy bed! Very good value for money with amazing views and a very nice and clean bathroom! Food was great and a good place. The staff were really lovely and the entertainment was good at night they even take you too the local night club. Very sociable and a good location would recommend!

Mad monkeys in PP is a very cool hostel. I stayed for 6 days in total. The food is very good and all the staff are really nice. Soso is so much fun. Domrey and Sopheak do a great job behind the bar!

Good Hostel as all reviews said that. The only thing you have to aware that this is a party Hostel so you can hear music even at midnight. The pool was not so big, I just wonder if they change the water or not.
