Hipster Guest Rooms

A welcoming, friendly and helpful manager got my stay off to a good start and things just got better as time went on. Spacious, bright room with balcony overlooking a busy, narrow, pedestrian street accommodating cafe tables and chattering people. My room had two chairs, a bedside table, a wardrobe, a small table on which stood a small, flat screened TV, air conditioning and a hair dryer. The bed was low with a fairly thin, foam mattress on creaking, wooden slats. Not the most comfortable but adequate. The toilet/shower room is clean and typically Bulgarian i.e. a small wet room where you and everything else gets showered. Toilet rolls kept below a certain height become somewhat soggy in such rooms. I wanted some tripe soup - traditional Bulgarian. The manager gave me a good tip so here it is for you: Go through the front exit, turn left, walk to the end of the street to the main road. Turn left and proceed to the next corner where, next to the pedestrian underpass entrance you will find the `Soup Pause` shop. Six types of soup. Lasagne, potato in cheese sauce, cabbage cooked the Bulgarian way. Many dishes. All around 3.5 Leva. Tripe soup and bread 2.75 Leva. Popular - all Bulgarians in the queue. Point and smile. Nice staff. I can say that the Hipster represents outstanding value for money in an excellent location, convenient for exploring both the old town and modern Plovdiv. Thoroughly recommended without hesitation.
