Bordo Self Catering Apartments

We went with a group of friends to Bansko in the first week of January and booked a double bedroom apartment at Bordo. There were no reviews for it at the moment and the price was rather low compared to other properties in the area, so I was a bit concerned at first, but once we arrived there I can say I was very pleasantly surprised. The apartment was in a brand new building in a quiet area of Bansko, with a big living room and average sized bedrooms, a kitchen with pretty much everything you may need (as a tourist that doesn't intend to do heavy cooking). Very clean and comfortable, on arrival we found clean sheets and towels for 6ppl; it had electric heating (also for water - an 80L electric boiler that proved it can handle 5 short showers in a row). Not very easy to find, there are no street numbers and only a small and inconspicuous plate with "Bordo" written on it, but thanks God for GPS, which led us to withing 50m of the building :) When we arrived we called the owner on the mobile phone and 10 minutes later they arrived with the keys; at departure they came to collect the keys and return us the 50E guarantee we paid on arrival; it was a smooth and professional experience. As for the location, it's great if you have a car, not so good otherwise. It's about 5min walk to the main tourist street and a 15min walk to the ski slopes. While it was nice walking around in the evenings looking for a place to eat, it's definitely not a good idea to walk all the way to the gondola while wearing your ski gear; we used to go by car and leave it in the big parking lot near the gondola. So I think if you do have a car it's better to choose this kind of location than pay twice the money for an accomodation 200m closer to the ski slopes. Bansko itself is a nice place, the resort is a bit overgrown compared to the ski domain (and in badly need of a second gondola!), but still an excellent value for the money. Food is a bit of a gambling for the first time tourist who doesn't know the restaurants there, we ate both great and below average dishes for roughly the same amount of money. All in all a very pleasant experience, I recommend this place as a great budget accomodation for groups of 4-6 people that come to Bansko by car.
