Turneffe Island Resort

Repeat guest.  In fact 75% of the guests this week were repeat which is all you likely need to know.  Staff is incredibly friendly and personable from the reception (Iris) to bar (Fidel) to diving (Brad and Marcel) to Spa (Victoria) and dining (Jesse).  A total luxury experience without being pretentious.  Dive sites are out of this world.  Rental dive equipment is in phenomenal shape.  Active resort.  Geared for people who want to fish, snorkel, and/or dive with options for those that don’t.

This was our second trip to Turneffe Island Resort.  The combination of being able to unplug, experience great dives, and enjoy the comfy luxury was perfect.  The staff is attentive and outstanding.  Anybody starting a luxury tourist business should come here to learn.

Incredible place with impeccable personalized service, amazing snorkeling, and beautiful accomodations.  Kayaks available to go around the island.  Food was very good, the cocktails top notch, and the staff were incredible.  They greeted us at the dock and said farewell on our departure from paradise.  Trip to Lighthouse Caye was unreal. Knowledgeable guides made us feel safe and learned a lot.

The entire staff were members of a well coordinated team to provide the highest level of service. In addition the location was ideal. We snorkeled twice a day every day almost always at a new location. The Cook came up with brilliant solutions to my extremely limited food requirements. Overall, I couldn’t be happier. I’ll be back!

Amazing, amazing place!  We had a multi-generational group with two kids, five adults.  This was an amazing place to spend quality time.

All the other reviews are right - the rooms are gorgeous, clean, well equipped (AC, mini fridge, modern bathroom).  The food is AMAZING and you won’t go hungry!  The drinks are plentiful.  And the service is world-class.

I do want to “mythbust” a few things that I saw mentioned in other reviews.  I was unnecessarily apprehensive about these:
1) Some other reviewers said the schedule was rigid/ too structured.  We did NOT find this to be the case. Breakfast runs from 7-9am if you’re not on a scuba trip.  If you’re a bit late to lunch/ dinner, or your group shows up at staggered times, it’s fine!  The servers are very accommodating. And if you want to skip a meal or skip happy hour, it’s also totally fine!  It’s a very relaxed environment.

2) Limited activities for kids.  Again, NOT an issue for us.  We had two active boys with us (age 9 & 11) and they had a blast!  In fact, the absence of TVs and screens really encouraged them to play and explore.  They mostly spent time in the pool and on the beach playing games.  The older one also had a lot of fun on a half-day fishing excursion.  

3) Coral / reef health.  This area is beautiful, it seemed MUCH healthier than where we snorkeled in Maui last year. The coral was colorful and alive, the fish and sea life were plentiful.

Our family of 4 just got back from Turneffe Island Resort (TIR). We were a mix bag of 1 SCUBA diver, 2 avid fishermen and 1 R&R mom. Everyone had a great all-around experience at TIR. The food & drinks were wonderful; rooms nice, cool & clean; physical grounds well kept; and, reception/staff were incredibly friendly. Our flight was a few hours late but somehow, with constant communication, we had a boat waiting for us to take us to the island. We certainly appreciated this as we no interest in spending the night in the city. Everything was seamless!

SCUBA Diving - My daughter had a total of 7 dives including the Blue Hole. She thoroughly enjoyed the marine life (most notable are the sharks, groupers, lobster, stingrays, sea turtles) she saw and of course, the famous Blue Hole dive. The water was very clear and warm. Her comment was that 'just when she thought the dive couldn't get any better, it did!' Last year, she dove in Seychelles and she claims TIR offered a similar experience. Her dive master, Hilario, was excellent. Took wonderful pictures & videos, going beyond expected efforts.
FISHING - My husband & son went flats fishing for 3 days. The bonefishing was tricky but worth the experience. While it was incredibly hot, the flats were not too far from TIR that the guide took them back for a couple of hours of rest & hydration.
SNORKELING - The (day & night) snorkeling was fantastic! Clear waters with our guide, Luis, making it a point tolet us constantly know the species we were seeing. The water was generally warm and reef very healthy/vibrant. I have to admit, our Belize reef snorkeling was much much better than in Australia's Barrier Reef!
R&R - Wonderful in-house masseuse, Roxy. Loved that TIR had daily specials that I availed of. 

I can't end this review without some special shout outs. Hilario, the dive mater really out did himself. Luis, our snorkeling guide, kept on surfacing to let us know what/where we can see species. We've never had a guide that thorough. Sean, in reception, was funny, helpful & we enjoyed his company during the evenings. Thank you Sean for taking our family pictures! Jason, the ever energetic deckhand, was on top of things during the snorkeling & diving activities. Fidel, our bartender, had the most creative & delicious drinks available. Irwin, our fishing guide, made sure our group had a good bonefishing experience.

So go ahead, book your trip to Belize and TIR. You won't regret it.

Excellent dive resort with extremely competent dive crews/first rate dive services, superb food and beautiful accommodations! And from the pics I thought there was only one lounge spot out on a pier but there are many including the hanging bed, my favorite!  Absolutely beautiful rec room, pool, outside bar and dining room.

Gym: For those gym rats, excellent gym/fitness center with plates and adjustable dumbbells, bar, pull-up bar, elliptical, bands, bike etc (see pics).  630 yoga instructor Victoria is fabulous!

Accommodations: I was in the most “basic” room in the two two story buildings and these rooms are fantastic- I strongly recommend the cheapest rooms 1-4 where you can access the outdoor showers easily after dives (although they do have less light/openings than others because you’re on ground floor with folks above.  For upper rooms, you have to go thru the room which I wouldn’t like.  I only used the outdoor shower (room 2 has the tree in it!) and used it a lot after diving, snorkeling, pool etc so the easy access without getting sand etc in your room is great.  Get the cheapest room!!!

Snorkeling/swimming from resort:  snorkeling is fantastic from the boardwalks on the outer perimeter as the fish (hundreds of schools) live in the big rocks.  I also saw sting rays almost every time I went.  Do NOT exit from the inner coves which are too shallow  and you’ll get stung from critters on the sea grass.  I am leaving a snorkeling entry/exit and guide with the office.  Easy to swim along the outer boardwalks as well.

This was hands down the best vacation my husband and I have ever been on.  The location is remote and private.  The rooms are beautiful and luxurious. The food is healthy and delicious. The staff is incredible from housekeeping to wait staff to the bar and fishing guides..  Hendry the bartender is so much fun and make the best drinks. Buddy our fishing guide is super knowledgeable and truly made this the trip of a lifetime for us. The motto on the island is "Arrive as strangers and leave as friends".  This could not be more true.  We can not wait to return as soon as we can. 

This was a fantastic week diving in Belize!  From the moment we boarded the boat to travel to the island, to the moment we left, we truly felt welcomed and catered to.    All the staff go above and beyond to make your visit as special as it can be.       Hendry is the concoction specialist, there to keep you in your happy zone!   Hilario was an amazing divemaster, we saw so many different forms of marine life ( and lots of sharks!! :))  and had great experiences with him.  He is very safety conscious and keeps a close eye on his divers.   The food was very good, the rooms spotless and very comfortable, and the grounds were impeccably clean.   Tipping at the end is a bit confusing and difficult, I would prefer a  completely all inclusive price with tipping being the exception not the rule. Overall, this was one of our best trips ever, and we definitely hope to return.

Five start resort, fantastic diving, good food and drinks.  Staff are exceptional and make you feel at home.  This is definitely a true getaway, you are 1.5 hours out in the ocean from Belize.   From the moment you set foot on the boat to go to the island, you are made to feel special.   Hendry, Hilario and Shawn were wonderful to us.

A wonderful week of diving at a beautiful and fun resort

Turneffe Island Resort Motto:  Come as strangers, leave as friends, 100%!  Where do I start, absolutely immaculate from the beach to the pool to our Villa (9, highly recommend).  The views were spectacular from every spot on the island!  Ceceila was an amazing, she made sure everything was perfect.  We started each morning with coffee delivered to our room, a daily newsletter, lunch feature, weather, etc.  The nightly turn down service with poem was a very special touch.  The food was amazing at every meal, fresh, delicious and very healthy!  The Friday night BBQ was my favorite night, so fun on the beach.  But the best part were the people!  Both guests and staff, everyone so friendly and engaged!  Charles, Hendrey and Fidel our bartenders were amazing mixologist!  Jesse and the entire kitchen staff made every meal so memorable.  Iris, Shawn, Eddie and Aly made sure every guest was happy and made you feel like family.  Eddie Jr, our fishing guide was absolutely awesome!  We have already booked for 2024 and we have been home 1 day!   A very special place and very special people!
