Juan's Guesthouse is centrally located, with minimal amenities but a great bargain .  The five stars comes from the service and overall friendliness of the staff.

Noel was an absolute joy to meet.  He was very forthcoming about what to do, where to do it and what it should cost.  He bartends some nights when the bar is open and he made some of the most delicious and fresh tasting drinks we found on the island.  He was smart about working with what the place has to offer.

Amazingly friendly staff at a great, very quiet and relaxing location. Not on the beach but lovely and quiet at the end of town. This is by far the best value for money you will find in Caye Caulker! Really well appointed rooms with good facilities. Highly recommended. Good WiFi also!

Great place to stay

Great value

Booked this property last minute....should have stayed in a hotel. Was extremely dirty and had limited facilities. Juan was friendly but that didn't make up for many deficiencies. It was co-ed which could be uncomfortable for some. It was so bad, I left a day early

Cheap isn't Always the Answer

Ok, I get it, it’s probably the cheapest place to stay on a very expensive island, but spreading bed bugs around, or even worse, bringing them home is not worth the “savings”. I included a photo of some of the ones I caught. 

I read the reviews, there were no recent ones stating bed bugs when I booked, so I gave the benefit of the doubt. The mattress passed “the test” (looking at the edge trim for evidence). I got by far the worst case of bed bugs I’ve ever had in over 20 years of travelling. There were so many crawling on me I was able to catch them. 

Another girl in another room who left the same morning I did also had bed bugs like crazy in her room; enough to get video of them crawling around! 

The regular manager was away and the replacement was incredible, she gave me a refund, which I used to have all of my things washed and dried, including my backpack. 

They also seem to have a terrible system of keeping track of bookings; a gent in my dorm had booked a private room online only for them to have no record of it (or a room available) when he arrived. 

The shower on the main floor for the dorm was so gross that I almost wanted to shower with my clothes on; there was also no hot water and most water fountains have better water pressure than it does. 

I honestly don’t think they know how to properly deal with their (constantly re occurring) bed bug problem, I would just stay away. 

As a side note, although the drinks at their bar are nice and cheap, I wouldn’t dare sit anywhere there, lest you get critters that hitch a ride with you. If anyone who has stayed there has sat on those cushions, there is a VERY good chance they deposited some. 

Bed bugs! Run, don’t walk - see photo

We booked this place via Hostelworld. We looked for a nice place to stay during our trip and wanted to have a beautiful private room. Due to the nice pictures online we choose this place (See attached).
At arrival, we firstly got informed that the payment could only be done in cash and no creditcards were accepted. After paying, we received a 4 digit code which was our ‘roomkey’. They said this code is only known by us and the reception lady, but when we asked to change the code it wasnt possible. This already did not make us feel very safe.
Coming into the room, we thought we were at the wrong place: the room looked NOTHING like on the pictures!!! The door to the toilet was mouldy, the aircon looked like it had been on fire and the mattress was so thin, you could feel the metal through only by sitting on it.
We checked out only an hour after checkin in as we could not image us sleeping in the place at all. The lady at reception was at least nice enough to give us back the money.
If you are an 18 year old backpacker, traveling alone without any expectation, that place might be something for you... But for us it was definitely a NO GO!!!

No WAY!

Description doesn't correspond with reality. Beds were full of bugs. Lack of cleaning. Don't stay here. Better look for another place although an expensive one. We were full of bites and we had to desinfect all the backpack. Very bad experience. Avoid this place.
