Bruges @ Home

Went to Calais for booze shopping but got late eurotunnel return so on spur of moment went to Bruges ; fabulous place ; if you're nearby or passing through definitely worth spending couple of hours walking around ; go up the tower and canal trip is worth a go ; we went weekend in feb so not too busy - if weathers ok it's perfect time to go ; 

We have just returned from our third trip to Bruges and we would certainly stay at this house again, We had some issue en route and had to come out a day later but Katrien was so helpful. The house itself is centrally located and the rooms are modern and contain all mod cons. The house is small but that is just the style of the place and adds to the charm. We used the Jacuzzi which was great after a days shopping and I would certainly  recommend this place for couples. The only slight negative is the steep, small staircase, so not ideal for the elderly.

I wanted to write a review about the Symphonia B&B house, which is the sister house of Bruges @ Home, however, unfortunately it doesn't show on TA. 
Anyway, the symphonia, is a bigger house than B@H, with 2 double bedrooms, one with an extra pull out bed, and a single room. The house holds 6 people. 
There is not one thing I can say about this house that needs changing, not one flaw, not one thing that I thought, 'I could have done with that'. 
There are too many things to list that were included within the house. A few of my favourites were, of course, the Jacuzzi and sauna, the AMAZING massage chair, the HUGE round bed. The touch screen fresh coffee machiene, the throughout house sound system, and the orange juicer! 
There were really helpful things too like a plug adapter, I never usually forget to take one but funnily enough I happen to forget when there is one provided! There is also a wall full of information leaflets and maps in the hallway and umbrellas, not that we needed them!

In saying all of this, the one most pleasant, useful and surprising aspect of the house, was our hostess, Katrien. Without her the trip would have been great, but with her, it surpassed all expectations. I will never again give in to poor customer service. On our first day, we were told that our hostess will arrive within one hour after we arrived, to show us around etc. Turns out the entry system that texts her to let her know that you've arrived had misfired, so she didn't turn up for 90 mins or so, however, when she did arrive she was so friendly and welcoming, letting us know we were free to try any off the exclusive herbal teas, complimentary coffee out of the machiene and biscuits etc. She encouraged us to use the Jacuzzi, sauna and massage chair, letting us know which seetings she thought were the best. She also spent at least 30 mins annotating a map and showing us what the unmissable parts of Bruges were and where the best places to eat were. On her departure, we happened to mention that we had misplaced one of our bags on the train from Brussels, expecting her to at most give us a number to call, or to let us know the way back to the train station to ask ourselves, she started asking us for a full description of the bag and which train we caught and promptly left the house to go to the train station herself. Leaving us able to enjoy our first night in Bruges without the added worry of having to find the bag. Surprisingly 30 minutes later, whilst walking to a restaurant, Katrien called us and stated that she had left the bag in the porch for us!!!! 
Still...better yet...the next day, my birthday, I awoke to a plate of miniature cakes, with a note saying 'Happy Birthday', she had placed them there first thing in the morning before anyone had woken up. 
There's more...On our final morning, as we were climbing the Belfort, we received a phone call from Katrien, who had heard that there may be train strikes from Brussels to London. She had been to the train station in the morning to find out information for us, without us even knowing, and could not find anything out. She said that she would come round to the house to offer some help, we arrived back and she rang the train company, and when there were long delays on the phone drove one of our party with her to the train station with our planned travel itinerary, to which they discovered our journey hadn't been affected.....unfortunately for me, as I wished to stay another night!!! 
This may have been a slightly long winded way of saying how much of a gem Katrien is, however the things she did were so above the call of duty that I wanted to share them. I have never received customer service like it, she was like our own PA, even better! 

Even without Katrien, the house is amazing! It is only a short 10 minute walk to the Markt and Burg squares, Bruges is so small and easy to get around anyway! It is also a 10 minute walk to the train station, so don't bother getting a taxi like we unfortunately did, it cost us 10euros, a rip off and the taxi driver was a nightmare, we reckon because he knew it was such a short fare, a waste of his time. Just print off a map before you come and find your own way, its pretty much up a straight main road. 

The only thing I did notice is how narrow and steep the stairs are in this house, so if you have mobility issues, maybe this isn't the best place for you. 

We will most definitely be returning, probably Christmas time to try the hot tub out in the cold winter nights! Wish I could give this 10 stars.

I spent a week at Bruges@Home in Bruges, Belgium. 
It was fantastic, the house, full privacy, Tv, Internet, jacuzzi, Belgian breakfast...jacuzzi, music, wine and candles...
Bruges is one of the most beautiful city and if you visit it, call Bruges@Home...
