Astoria Pension

My wife and I stayed at the Astoria for a cheeky ski break in Solden just before Xmas and we had a fantastic time. The hotel is very clean (I wonder if they had a refurb over the summer / autumn as everything looked brand new), the bedrooms and bathrooms are large - the shower was huge, and the owners were very welcoming. One of my pet hates about hotels (of all standards) is the general noise you can get - doors slamming, elevators, paper thin walls, etc, however even though the Astoria seemed fairly busy we felt relaxed and the rooms were quiet. And the location is good, easy walk to the Giggijoch gondola and all the hire shops / bars / restaurants. Solden itself is a great resort for a ski break / holiday, especially early in the season - easy drive from Innsbruck, high skiing terrain, plenty of variety in slopes, loads of good mountain restaurants, fun apres, nice mix of nationalities, not crazy expensive and you can go to Obergurgl for a day on the same lift pass now. The only annoying thing I find is the main road running right through the village which can get pretty busy.
