My first nice surprise was the room (Room 11). It was a generous size, with large twin beds (each a double). It had lots of wardrobe space, a table and chairs, a small ensuite bathroom with shower cubicle and sink. It also had a balcony with stunning views over the surrounding countryside (the hotel is more or less at the top of a large hill), with two chairs to sit on. There was a small 4:3 TV. Everything was very clean. My second nice surprise was that when I asked for an iron and ironing board, one of the proprietors offered to have her staff do it for me. So every morning, having decided what I wanted to wear, I took my clothes downstairs and they were returned, nicely ironed, within the hour. I was not charged at all for this service. I have not experienced service like that at any other hotel, ever. The third nice surprise was the food and beer. The food is standard Austrian cuisine, and the portions are generous and the prices reasonable. They have their own brewery and the beer was so good that I drank it all week despite the fact that I normally despise lager. The fourth nice surprise was the general attitude of the proprietors and staff. They just couldn't do enough to help. One measure of how accomodating they were is that on some nights when I was drinking with colleagues in the bar, the barman locked the outside doors, went to bed and left us to it, having first shown us how to switch the lights off. Most places would just insist that you went to bed when the bar closed. The fifth nice surprise was when I got my bill - they only charged me the single rate for a double room, so I ended up paying less than I expected. The sixth nice surprise was when one of the proprietors joined us for a drink on the last night, and then showed us round their brewery. Overall, I can't recommend it highly enough.
