Hotel Tanneneck

We were shown to a pleasant room with balcony and good bathroom. Limited but pleasant outlook largely onto trees. Found to be a quiet room as hotel is constructed on the steeply sloping valley slope below the main road that runs along the valley. The hostess speaks little English but had gone to the trouble of preparing a written information sheet in English describing the hotel facilities as well as information on local transport. She also provided an excellent walking map with location of the lifts open in summer, including those in nearby Germany. The choice at breakfast and dinner was excellent and the hotel draws attention to the many excellent products that originate in the Kleinwalsertal, including cheeses, sausages, butter, bread, yoghurt, honey and jams. A nearby bus stop gives access to the excellent free and frequent bus service that runs along the valley. The lifts reached by bus provide access to stunning scenery and a wide variety of mountain walks, including hill farms and restaurants. The swimming pool with sauna and sunbed is well organised with towels laid out for each room and a numbered hangar for clothes. The hotel is very quiet after dinner but after a hard days walking, followed by a good dinner, wine or beer, and grappa, this was not a problem for us. We recommend the hotel and the Kleinwalsertal.
