Saturday, 5 September 2015 Haus Renswouw Hollersbach Austria The room on the second floor was spacious with a sunny balcony and good views to the mountains. Breakfast was sumptuous continental type served in the dining room. The Wi-Fi in the room is good for keeping in touch and to get details on the many opportunities offered. The owner was very helpful in many ways to make us feel comfortable and welcome. She also provided us with a free “Hohe Tauern Pass” which gave us among many other offers, free access to the Hohe Tauern Welten exhibition at Mittersill, a free pass along the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse and a 30 minute chairlift ride at Hollersbach up to a 1800m high mountain for easy alpine walking and for glorious views of the Salzach Valley including Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner. We stayed here for four nights in August. Hollersbach is in an ideal location for shopping at Mittersill, exploring the beautiful valleys of Obersulzbachtal, Untersulzbachtal, Hollersbachtal and Habachtal and walking alongside Europe’s highest waterfalls at Krimml. It is easily reached from Germany via a low pass across the northern mountains and is a gateway to Italy via the Felbertauern Tunnel across the southern mountains. The best dining is at the Sahnealm a short drive up the side of the mountain affording glorious views of the Salzach valley below. The menu is long with many traditional delicious Austrian dishes, including roast pork with sauerkraut and dumplings. It is suggested to stay for a week in autumn to get a good Pinzgau feeling. The weather is more stable, good for outdoor activities. The roads are less crowded for easy driving.
