On our way home back to Melbourne such a beautiful area very convenient close to everything you need room was clean an had all you need with food right next door. To check in just had to go into bar which was little confusing but got there all ok thanks. 

Rooms are perfect for an overnight. Clean and when you walk in the room smells clean and fresh. Rate is very reasonable. We would stay again. Easy stroll to sights around town. Pub is easy 10min stroll chinese restaurant an easy 10min stroll.

Booked a night a month previously, plans changed and l needed to stay an extra night, it was very difficult to get a response, the phone no on my confirmation slip kept telling me in was disconnected, l emailed several times between Fri-Mon also left several txt messages on a mobile no l found on the station website. Got there in the end, however a staff member used their key to enter our room on the extra night saying the system said it was available even though l'd paid for the room- looks like someone needs to have a serious look at the admin side, otherwise the room was comfortable,clean and very convenient to main st etc-my husband loved the quirky toilet seat light!!

Hard to get an extra night

We stayed here recently, the rooms were very clean but A little tired.  They supplied tea, coffee and milk upon arrival.  The bed was extremely uncomfortable, very hard and they didn't have enough pillows, they were also hard which is a little disappointing, we had just travelled 7 hours so we were looking forward to a great nights sleep. They have a small pool.  Seats out the front of each room to have a cuppa on was a nice touch.  It was under a $100 a night to stay so ........

Don't need the car, walk around Town.....

Only stayed here as everywhere else was booked out.   To minimise updating the owners have marketed it as "recreating the sensational seventies".  It is clean but the decor is hideous and quite jarringly mismatched.  It is really a revisit all the worst of the 70s with chipped cupboards, wood paneling , old furniture, carpet squares, cane chairs and lots of brown and green.  Located near the main street.  There is no onsite management, you need to go to the drive through bottleshop across the lane to book in.   They offer wifi but the code was not written anywhere in the room and we had to go and specially enquire (and they didnt know).  The rooms are not serviced at all during a multi night stay. There is no room or town information in the rooms, apart from a clipboard with some takeaway menus. If its a weekend, the hotel entertainment (on the main street) is very loud so you can hear everything quite clearly in your room with the door and window shut. There are also crickets living in the rooms, possibly in the walls and they chirruped most of the night.  Of course you can drown their noise out with the even noisier airconditioner ....   Extremely overpriced and definitely  NOT recommended.

70s horror

I was previously a regular at this motel, I loved staying here on the drive north from Melbourne, a lovely pleasant motel, managed by a lovely guy and his wife, in a gorgeous little town on the river. I always looked forward to staying at this motel.

Management has now changed: The pub, bottle-o and motel are now owned by the same person, who is currently renovating the pub and motel. The pub is a now lively place with a nice new beer garden. 

The motel now? To check in, you have to go into the pub (a block away). This may not be an issue for other people, who may like that extra connection. But for me as a young woman travelling alone, this is a genuinely uncomfortable situation to be placed into, walking into a noisy crowded unfamiliar bar on a Friday night, particularly after a long drive, simply to check into a different motel. It was not helped by having to speak to four different people to advise I had arrived. 
 
The reason why I don't wish to return? Not because of the checkin process, but because of the way I was treated - as an 'uptight' and unwelcome customer - when I expressed my discomfort. 

What happened? I advised the lady responsible for check in that I found checking in at the pub uncomfortable. I told her about how much I enjoyed staying at the motel, and how lovely the previous owner had been. And that I knew the place had been sold and that it was being renovated.

She replied that obviously the previous owners were 'more my kind of people', and that she could help me find another place to stay since I so clearly did not wish to stay at the motel. My reply that I did wish to stay at the motel, just that I was uncomfortable about check in, was met with 'you don't need to pay for the room, the price can be on the house' as I was clearly 'an uptight person'. A standoff ensued, as I tried to explain I was very happy to pay for the room. She walked off, cutting off the conversation abruptly.

Feeling so unwelcome as a result of this, I put the keys inside the room, closed the door, got back in the car and kept driving. In all honesty, I am lucky I did not have a car accident. I was extremely upset: it had been a very long day for me, and I had been very much looking forward to staying at the motel. 

I do hope I can find another motel that is welcoming and thoughtful, as I travel through quite often and Tocumwal is such a lovely place to stop.
