My wife and I used the Lyall as our base in Melbourne for a week. Just off Toorak Road, nice and quiet yet really close to trams and the railway station. It seems to have had a recent renovation. Our apartment was very comfortable and well appointed. The sunshine streaming into our bedroom, and the lounge was delightful. (There are good block out curtains.) The small balcony was a great place to have a glass of merlot and get some vitamin D (OK, this is Melbourne - you had to be quick!). Our cat would've loved the heated bathroom floor (sort of wanted to lie on it myself - the tiles were so fresh and clean.) The gym is ok - treadmills, elliptical cross-trainer, treadmills and a multi-station weights machine. There are light dumbbells to 10kg. We have previously stayed in the CBD, but were getting a bit tired of traipsing around the same crowded streets and lanes of central Melbourne. Our stay here has been very refreshing. We can wander a couple of hundred metres from the Lyall and find lots of interesting shops, cafes and restaurants. There is a great fresh food store just across Toorak Road. A bit more of a walk, or a short trip on the number 8 tram and we're at Chapel street, with yet more options. Or head the other direction, and we're at the Arts precinct, or Southbank. We are very happy with our stay here, and will come again.
