I enjoyed 8 nights at the Donwtown Hostel in Yerevan.  The hostel is clean and well-run.  Staff is VERY friendly.  The breakfast was spartan and not to my taste--bread, hardboiled eggs, chees, and turkey hotdogs, and the coffee/tea is only hot water with instant, but for the price, convenience, cleanliness, and friendliness, who cares?  I would stay there again!

Great hostel, inexpensive, centrally located

Me, my wife and two friends of us stayed in the DownTown hostel for 1 night late September 2014.
The hostel is comfortable enough. It has a big and cosy kitchen, clean rooms and friendly staff. We were very happy about 4-person rooms being available: we didn't have to split our company or share our room with other people. The price for the room was quite reasonable (I'm not sure it's a good idea to specify it here though).
Besides, I'd like to say a special thank you to Anna and a very big and special thank you to Lena who gave us tons of eminently helpful information about Yerevan and Armenia!
I would recommend this hostel for all travelers who look for an affordable apartment in Yerevan for a few nights.



Nice, cosy hostel

- Staff were very polite and helpful. 
- nice breakfast and services (free internet and coffee...).
- free use of washing machine.
- We had a sink inside the room in the closet which smelled extremely lethal (sewage).
- toilet and shower also smelled sewers. 
- beds were very used, mattresses were stained.

A satisfying stay, hostel could be better with some maintenance.

We have stayed there in February, myelf and my boyfriend.

The review is about Penthouse Hostel however...since There was absolutely no one who was willing to check us in. The hostel in low season changed localization, we had no info about it so we found out at the place where the doors were locked and the piece of paper was places with details of the new localization and few tips how to get there. It was like 15 minutes walking distance to Penthouse Hostel - the right localization for the low season for us.

What's the worse, breakfast was NOT provided - even if we had it included on our booking reservation!

We had to wait around 40 minutes for someone to come and check us in. Moreover there was no elevator so the rooms are on 5th floor you need to use stairs.

Located in the city center, stuff know English quite well. Comfortable bed, good value in low season. Wifi worked fine. Basic room, quite clean, without towels but with clean bed-linen and electric warmer.

The summary: maybe this is very cheap accomodation - and only for 1-2 night stay, can't imagine how group of people  (at least 15 ppl) can share one bathroom druing the summer where you have very hot weather daily!

Avarage hostel

We booked the Penthouse Hostel but was unavailable when we arrived, due to no electricity.  They took us to the Downtown Hostel in a taxi.

We booked a dorm but they gave us a private room since there's a change in hostel.  We extended our stay and they didn't make us change rooms.  Maybe it's also because it's low season.

The location of the hostel is good.  Walking distance to Republic Square, the Cascade, Blue Mosque, Opera House, etc.

Hostel can be a bit noisy at night (depending on backpackers).  Clean bathrooms and toilets and simple breakfast.  

The staff turnover seems to be pretty high.  But the staff who were there when we stayed were helpful.  We booked a private tour through them and also the same taxi took us from Yerevan to Tbilisi.  Reasonable prices.
