the place is magic and the hosts are very creative. true inspiration to spend some time in the nature near this artists. for anyone who likes going back to the roots, the houses are perfect for such experience.

The potterer's house is an oasis of creativity and relaxation in Baia Sprie, Romania. I had the pleasure of staying the first 13 days this February and I'd definitely like to return any other time.
As I arrived I felt part of a special family and surrounded by a beautiful, tasteful arranged house.
My twin room (no 8) was well kept and clean with plenty of warmth in the winter and good views in the morning. 
A good breakfast with freshly cooked cheese brioches, cold meats and eggs of your choice will set you for the day.
Dinner was always served with palinca on the table and at candlelight with traditional dishes and soft background local music.
Throughout the day you can stay in the house and try your pottery skills under the kind instructions of Daniel, a gifted potterer, with lots of enthusiasm and love for the local tradition and his heritage. His passion for this craft is infectious and you will leave with the feeling that you are now part of Maramures, for you have touched its earth and embraced their traditions.
There is plenty of things to do, such as trips to The Blue Lake, of visit plenty of the wooden churches (Barsana not to be missed), or simply go skiing, or take the trip with carriage and horses in the snow that will make you feel part of a Tolstoi story. Sighet, Surdesti, Sapanta with its happy cemetery is not to be missed also.
Daniel and Daniela were a perfect host and I highly recommend their rustic, welcoming guest house.

It comes highly recomanded by everyone travelling in Maramures.
Nice location, up on a hill in Baia Sprie, on narrow streets, easy to find by GPS.
Inside the house there is a pottery workshop, very interesting especially for children.
The owner is a very well known pottery artist, Les Daniel. The house is full of his or local artist works, available on sale.
Clean rooms and tasty breakfast, with some local products, such as confiture or sausages.
We had breakfast included in room rate. Dinner and lunch are available upon request, for a more than reasonable price.
Baia sprie is a small city, with shops, markets and pharmacies.
There are a lot to visit around, such as Sighet former political prison, city center of Baia Mare, churches both orthodox and catholic, Sapanta cemetery.
Good WIFI.
Nice garden.
Kind owners and very helpful staff. Owners speak very good english.
We especially enjoyed the living room with a lot of local pottery works and traditional furniture.
  

Minuses
Very soft and uncomfortable mattresses.
Small rooms and very small bathrooms.
The house is made of wood, so it is noisy and has no soundproof.
Acces to the first and second floors is by narrow wood stairs, no elevator available.
Breakfast is served rather late, but upon request can be served earlier.
Parking on site.
Check and double check the weather before coming. Raining is often. Pack waterproof shoes even in summer, the grass is always wet.

Oasis of creativity

Tradition and inspiration

We stayed at Casa Minereasca, a separate house perhaps 200 m away from the main building, and although we knew it was an old, restored building, we had high expectations, after reading the other positive reviews. We requested to have breakfast and dinner at the restaurant, and the food was very tasty and plentiful. However, in the house we stayed in, there were no cups or glasses at all, or any cutlery, although there was a cupboard with plates only. The windows didn't have mosquito nets, and they were badly needed in the evenings, and all doors were screeching loudly - not helpful when you want to put your kids to sleep and then sneak out, or when 2 families share the house. Upstairs, the room furniture was scarce and in the bathroom we could have used a cabinet or something to put our towels or toiletries on. Downstairs: the bed was as old as the building, the springs were completely damaged and it was painful to sleep on. The towels provided were overused and frayed, they were a disgrace. On both sides of the entrance steps there were lots of nettles, and our 1 and 3 year old kids got stung several times, as much as we tried to avoid them. We were told to park under a tree in the large courtyard, only to find the windshield cracked the next day - an apple must have fallen from up above. The main building is lovely decorated, and we enjoyed very much the pottery workshop.

Dissapointing

First if all all the product were from the cheap supermarket LIDL, like all the milk products felt cheap . It was a disappointment for me to  realize that I have more natural healthy products  home than what they serve us, it felt really stupid.
The food was the same all the days, nothing new, why would you do that, why would you prefer to buy products that are not even 20% of what they should and not buy the real products from the local market with farmers.
This experience was a scam , liar, 
the rooms were really comfortable, clean,the maid doesn't come at all in the rome , it was warm , but anything else was plastic and fake, shame on you!

I feel that i was scammed  all the time i spend there

I've been wanting to stay at Casa Olarului for years, since I first found out about Daniel Les and I admired his work and way of living. The hosts were great, no doubt here, however the overall impression on the accommodation is that of chaos, sloppiness hence lack of care or effort to preserve the structure, to keep it clean and tidy. Things are thrown here and there, scars of time passing by with no maintenance can be seen everywhere- from the rooms to the common shared spaces to the garden. The idea and concept are great and I was looking forward to spending time in a traditional guesthouse. Unfortunately I was highly disappointed and decided to move elsewhere for the last night of the stay. A place famous for the artist himself, however the entire structure leaves the impression of having been built only to ensure an accommodation space for children with no pretentions during the pottery camps organized here.

Visited also the traditional houses 100m from the main accommodation: the clay house, the wood house and the stone house. Lovely little pieces of traditional architecture however on the inside, messy and chaotic, pseudomodern mixed with cvasi traditional pieces of furniture and appliences, not offering at all the felling of apleasant stay.

Looks can be deceiving and as they say…when you go to the praised tree with expectations…
