Where shall I begin…This was indeed a noteworthy Bed & Breakfast and a true hidden gem tucked away upon a steep hillside in the heart of Helen, Georgia. After an extremely long road trip of almost 600 miles in the pouring rain, one of the proprietors were so kind to wait on us until we arrived (which was well after midnight) with our room key and welcomed us to the property, with a brief tour.  

Upon walking into the room…I thought in a single word, “DETAILS!” I adored the details and focus on the well-styled rustic mountain and bear motif poured into the space that surrounded me. The wood had a natural tone with tongue and groove joints, there were intricate detailed hand-painted murals along the walls and a headboard that was hand carved with bears, each intertwined in a jazz ensemble, this was my favorite piece of art in the room.  (To the true art or jazz connoisseur, this is a piece that would catch your eye in less than a minute!) There was a radiating warmth exuded by the fireplace and an inviting oversized jacuzzi. (Equipped with delicious, scented bath herbs.) All the makings for a good night’s sleep. 

On the way to breakfast, I quickly noticed the waterfall and relaxing coy pond on the back side of the property, a definite ‘can’t miss spot’, as well as a gorgeous live edge wooden wooing bench out front…very Shakespearean. The breakfasts were delicious and always delightfully different every single morning that we were there. 

We have stayed in many places during frequent visits to North Georgia and Helen, from cabins to standard hotels, new hotels, Inns, and places that have some type of supposed authenticity factor about them. I can honestly say that for me personally, regarding authenticity, level of service, detail and commitment, this place simply “takes the cake” because of the heart in all that goes in to making each guest’s experience ‘one of a kind.’ 

Angie educated me on how the original Bed and Breakfast House was built around 1962 and has been constantly added on throughout the years, remodeled and built on to. As I continually learn about the property, my appreciation blossoms even more so. As a person who is immersed within the hospitality industry in some way shape or fashion, I believe it is important to look around ourselves at times and to take in our surroundings, I mean “really take it all in” and to look inside of the book, rather than to simply judge it by its cover. Regardless of how old or new a place is, I find that there is beauty and kindness to be found if it truly “IS” there. Every day here it felt as if we were discovering treasure, that’s how rare and unique this place is…there is so much charm to be found here.

Thank you, Angie, Terry, and the rest of the cheerful staff, for providing EXCEPTIONAL service and such a SUPERIOR level of Southern hospitality. When people are so genuinely kind, it makes the journey all worthwhile.

Perfectly Intertwined Amidst Pines.

Very friendly staff. Our room was very nice, clean and comfortable.  We were only there for one night. We'd definitely stay there again. Breakfast was great. Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, sweet potato pancakes, fresh fruit. All delicious.  Many different drinks & snacks available throughout the day. Located very near downtown.  Walked across the street to a store, Betty's, basically a grocery, that had just about everything. Also across the street and bit down the street is a great German restaurant we ate lunch & supper there. Recommended by the B&B staff. Sorry we didn't remember the gentleman's name, the girls were Angie & we believe Darlene. Nice patio, sitting area with a waterfall & koi pond. 

Relaxing time!

The breakfast was good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room wasn’t so great. There was nowhere to hang our clothes and the chairs were tiny and very uncomfortable.  The bed posts were directly in front of the TV.  Cluttered at the base of the steps to the room.

This Bed and Breakfast was perfect. The proprietors are so gracious and helpful. 

Helen, Georgia itself is a delight. The German and Bavarian style architecture, little shops, and the people are wonderful. This was a quick after-Christmas trip for my wife and I, and we definitely will be back.

Fun Post Christmas Trip to Helen and the Blackforest B&B.

A friend and I booked a honeymoon suite in this cute vacation rental right on the outskirts of downtown Helen. Terry and the fellow staff were some of the most hospitable people I have ever encountered. Although my friend I were worried because a honeymoon suite was the only room we could book in town on such a short notice, we ended up having an amazing getaway in a cozy, cabin-like room that we grew to adore.
What the amenities lacked in modernity was made up for in pure charm. We fell in love with this cute bed and breakfast and loved being able to enjoy breakfast with the staff and fellow guests each morning. The bed and breakfast’s convenient location relevant to downtown Helen and nearby attractions such as Babyland General and multiple hiking trails and waterfalls allowed us to make the most of our weekend trip to Helen. Furthermore, the on-site parking made excursions even more accessible throughout the day. The prime location of this bed and breakfast means that it is within walking distance of many delicious restaurants, shops, a local grocery store, the dispensary, and even a Biergarten.
I could not recommend Black Forest enough and encourage all travelers to Helen to book with Terry for their next visit to the Alpine City.

Cozy Mountain Getaway

Enjoyed our stay and sharing farm stories with Terry.  Morning breakfast, especially the pancakes, was delicious!  The room we stayed in was cutely decorated in Dutch decore.     They had water bottles, ice and little snacks available daily for guest.  So greatly appreciated. 

Quaint place to stay

Staff extremely nice!! Rooms are beautiful !! We stayed in a cabin!! Breakfast was excellent. There are a lot of stairs for some cabins but it’s great exercise!! Highly recommend staying here for a get a way! The price was reasonably for the room!!

Nice staff

Terry & Darlene are a power couple when it comes to a vacation getaway. They are so hospitable, genuine and awesome. The Black Forest Vacation rental was genuinely amazing. My fiancée and I were over the moon with the service and our room, absolutely fantastic. We will definitely be coming back and next time with our family. Breakfast, rooms

Getaway

We had the Royal Elegance Suite for three nights.  It was very spacious and very clean.  Ground floor access with parking just outside the door ... great for those who do not wish to climb the many steps to the regular rooms.  The suite has no view to speak of, but the convenience made up for it.

The bed was surprisingly comfortable.  Room also had a red heart-shaped tub for two.  The shower was small, but good water pressure.  Two sinks: one in bath area and the other in the living area where there was also a microwave and refrigerator.

Breakfast was included and we were skeptical, making plans to go to a restaurant if the comp breakfast wasn't up to snuff.  We were very pleasantly surprised!  Terry and his helper Darlene produced a feast each morning: eggs, sausages, crisp bacon, a different pancake each day ... plus various breads to toast if desired, cereals, OJ, coffee, teas, ice water and more.  There was also a tray of snacks (cupcakes, ding-dongs, etc) to grab to take with you.  They made nice bedtime snacks :)

Outside there was bottled water for the taking.  Wonderful to have during the hot July days in Helen.  

There's also a small courtyard with tables and chairs between the houses and near the koi pond.   Had it been cooler, we would have relaxed there in the evenings.

Location is great ... walking distance to all the stores along the main street.

The overall best part was the staff:  Terry was an incredibly hard working man (he did everything from making breakfast, to checking people in and out, to housekeeping when needed to running to the store to get supplies, to pruning bushes!).  We really enjoyed meeting him.  And he's a font of information about Helen and what to do/see/enjoy.

All the spaces we saw, including our room, had beautiful trompe l'oeil murals and designs.  It took me two days to realize that our fireplace surround and mantel were painted, not real.  

Be aware: this is not a new property.  Our suite was in a converted home and had its oddities (slightly slanted floors, odd closet, etc).  But we wanted something with charm and character and this was it.

Charming Property; EXCELLENT Staff

Celebrating our 30th anniversary ❤...we were very disappointed...we were in cabin room 6, at the top...53 uneven dangerous steps later we entered our room. It smelled moldy, it was very dusty and only one window would stay open. The bathroom floor had hair on it. The water feature did not work, the internet did not work, the tv didn't work properly. The mattress is soft...very soft. The water for the hottub comes out scalding. The owner was as scattered as his office, he confused us with another couple that was coming in later...he seemed to be very confused. Because of the condition of the room we chose not to eat there. Dirty room, dirty office...dirty kitchen? Not willing to take the chance. NOT WORTH THE COST!! Needs a complete overhaul. 
Positives...the location is nice...you can easily walk from there to just about anywhere in town. Being in the top cabin meant we didn't have the usual noises from other guests.
