*Please note The Bell in Charlbury has recently been completely renovated by Daylesford (Carole Bamford). Any review on Tripadvisor poor to Sept 17th 2023 should be ignored. I visited on Sunday 01st October for Sunday lunch. The staff were very helpful with plenty of members on hand to serve you, the food was superb, and the whole interior design is absolutely top notch. This is went another great pub by Daylesford. Overall we had a really enjoyable & relaxing lunch, I would thoroughly recommend. Will definitely be back soon.

My husband and I visited for 2 nights for our wedding anniversary, we enjoyed it that much we decided to stay on an extra night. Chantel the host was absolutely amazing and genuinely a very nice lady, her breakfasts are excellent. Lovely place very convenient to other areas of the Cotswolds and for a very reasonable price. Would definitely recommend and hopefully we’ll be able to visit again in the future.

Charming place and lovely staff, right in the centre of Charlbury

Wonderful stay, friendly staff and clean overall although the shower head was slightly blocked. I would definitely recommend staying here. The breakfast was delicious too.

I had stayed in the Bell years ago on business and had always wanted to return with my wife. Sadly it was the funeral of an old friend that caused this to happen but it meant that we were able to meet up again with old friends that we hadn’t seen in a while. The location and service we received all contributed to a very enjoyable experience given the circumstances

My wife and I have just stayed for a couple of nights at The Bell Inn for the sad reason of attending a family funeral nearby.

We absolutely made the right choice of where to stay. Above all the warmth of welcome and excellent customer service from all the staff made our stay, particularly in the circumstances.

I cannot recall all the names but Phil our barman who checked us in and Laura who I understand was deputising for the manager really shone.

The room (executive double) was spacious clean and well appointed with a very good bathroom with a large shower and bath. Lots of hot water.

We ate on both evenings from the traditional reasonably priced menu, very well cooked and presented, particularly the hand battered fish and chips meal. Similarly breakfast each morning was excellent.

A big thank you to everybody at The Bell. We highly recommend you.

Sunday Lunch at The Bell - Charlbury 

Great host

Nice superior double room, bed was very comfortable, a bit noisy as the room was situated above the bar. If we stayed again I would book a standard room in the adjacent building. Very accommodating as the pub wasn't serving food on a Sunday evening but the chef kindly catered for us.Breakfast was nice, pre ordered the night before due to covid policy.

Absolutely the right choice

This excellent three course set menu offers great value at £26. Imaginative choices include king prawns, smoked trout with celeriac remoulade and duck rillette starters followed by guinea fowl, sea bass or rib of beef, lemon tart and a generous plate of local cheeses. Please keep this formula, which offers something exciting and different!

Superb festive set menu that sets a new standard for Charlbury

We booked this last minute as we had a Saturday free. I must say we could not complain about anything. £80 for a room and breakfast is really good and everything was great. Very pleasant staff and the lady that checked us in was really helpful and friendly. Room was clean evening meal was nice and so was the breakfast. No complaints whatsoever not sure as well what an other reviewer complained about the atmosphere in the bar. I agree it was a Saturday night but it was very lively. Yes it is a pub and has rooms just like most of them in the area. I can see nothing wrong with that. It’s a way of experiencing the local area and people. Well done the Bell Inn

Quick weekend away 

The further you drive north west from Oxford, the more you delve into the Cotswolds.  The more you do, the greater the charm.  But charm comes not just from the little towns and villages with honey coloured stone that lie down hill by the little rivers.  Much of the charm comes from the people who own or work at the local pubs.  So it is with the Bell Inn in Charlbury.  Well done you!

Afternoon drinks

Though we were staying only one night the staff were very helpful in changing around one of the two rooms we had booked to make it safe for a young child. The rooms were spacious and comfortable as were the bathrooms, well supplied with toiletries. There was room for all 4 of us to sit and have tea together, using the excellent facilities provided. We had a most enjoyable evening meal and a good breakfast to send us happily on our way to Fairytale farm just a short distance away.

A delightful and peaceful place to stay

This was my first but not my last stay at the Bell Hotel. The room was spacious and had an amazing bathroom. However the food and hospitality was first class and not expensive. The Breakfast was good an overall the I had a most enjoyable stay. I am back there this week. I am looking forward to my stay with you again.
