The Inn On The Lake

We were looking for an escape for New Year after a pleasant, but busy, family Christmas. This was ideal. Superb location, very good food in copious quantities both for the meals and the all-day extras. Lots of optional activities, with staff who couldn't do enough. The very wet weather wasn't really ideal for much hiking, but we got some walking in. The rest of the time we relaxed in the comfortable lounge and bar with drinks, books and games. New Year's Eve was a party atmosphere, no specific dress code required beyond "party attire" but it was nice to see almost all the men in evening suits, and the ladies in their best sparkly gowns, it really helped to create a special atmosphere. Many of the people we met were New year regulars, and I can see why. The New Year's day short walk to Lanty's Tarn was a highlight, we were met at the midpoint with mulled wine, hot chocolate, and great quantities of cake, sandwiches, and mince pies! My wife has a mild nut allergy, which we had told the hotel about in advance. It was good to see the care the kitchen took, even to organising a special afternoon tea selection for our arrival. Our only real regret was that we didn't take up the offer of a free extra night, since the sun finally shone brightly the day we were leaving!
