We booked Stowford Manor as we prefer small, independently run sites. We booked the caravan and camping site field hoping this would be the nicest although we have never stayed on a club campsite before. The non-club field is actually nicer as it’s further away from the road. The road noise was constant and very prominent. We probably wouldn’t have minded this so much if the facilities had been decent. 3 toilets and 2 showers for the entire campsite was pretty poor. We didn’t see the toilet cleaned while we were there. We paid £32 a night for electric hook up and felt it was steep to ask for 50p on a meter for showering. The whole place looks pretty ramshackle but in a messy rather than shabby chic way. We paid for 2 nights but left after 1. We did love the donkeys though!

Beautiful location especially in this really hot weather lots of shade under the trees and lovely swimming in the river. How ever the problem occurs because no one seems to be looking after the camping field. We arrived to be told park anywhere which sounds great except for people who park up and pitch within 4ft of you. Twice we went out for the day and came back and had to ask people to move over. 
We were told that only people camping can swim in the river from there, shame they didn't tell that to the locals who turned up every day with hoards of kids paddle boards inflatables and such. or just random people wondering in from the Farleigh swim club just down river. The no noise after 10pm is laughable especially as most sit out round fire pits until late. Couldn't believe they were still selling firewood for these pits as everywhere we went there was road signs saying no fires no BBQs in this really hot dry time.
The other annoyance was lack of clearing up, people dumping their rubbish in the hedges old burnt out portable bbqs all their unwanted food, we even had the disgusting job of removing some loo roll that had been used and thrown in the bushes behind were we camped. We were there 5 days and did not see the showers or loos cleaned once we decided to use out own in the caravan but had no where to tip the grey waste so had to put it in a cess pit. Will not be going back. All it would need is a person just popping onto the field everyday cleaning the facilities and making sure people dispose of their rubbish properly, checking people in properly so you don't have idiots literally driving on your awning straps or putting up their tents 4ft away from you, and some signs saying private campers only.

Could be wonderful

We camped in the field by the road which was noisy but obviously beyond the control of the owners. The river and swim spot were lovely. The big let down were the washing and toilet facilities which were poor quality. The hot water for hand washing was dangerously scalding to use and no plugs to fill basin to make useable warm water. Showers 50p for a bit of a dribble, shower attachment broken so kept dropping down. All a bit small and cramped. Definitely need a big upgrade for an otherwise nice site

Some good, some bad

Tasty as usual. We sat outside under a canopy. This was due to COVID-19. It was quite windy which did cause a disruption but apart from that, fantastic as usual for the scones etc..

Always good value for money and generous servings.

A Great Cream Tea!

We stopped here again with friends for a lovely cream tea. 

The scones are very tasty and you get a generous serving of cream and jam. 

We went for a short walk afterwards in the field which in next to the river. Nice and relaxing.

And just great for a river wild swimming experience.  What could be lovelier than swimming quietly with dragonflies darting and kingfishers diving.

Lovely B and B

My son went there for cream tea.  He said the scones were great.
Friends invited him for a typical British tea, I daresay out of most usual tourist paths for foreigners. Not a place to go just for tea, but if you are nearby it surely deserves a visit or a short detour.

Lovely location on the river. Very rustic, over priced for two showers that barely work and charge 50p, queues at busy periods and three tatty toilets, again not enough in school holidays. Facilities were not noticeable cleaned in the four days we were there and some of our party got a vomiting bug, can’t say how they caught it but the lack of cleaning does not fill us with confidence and i note this has happened in previous reviews! The cream teas looked delicious, shame there isn’t a small shop or other amenities.

Camping

My daughter booked the venue for her weekend wedding- including the B&B that our family stayed in. Gail and Tony were great hosts with delicious fresh food for our breakfasts during the weekend. The rooms were lovely and clean with great views onto their beautifully kept garden. I couldn’t recommend the whole service they provided more- even though we live in Bath which is only a 20 minute drive away it would be lovely to stay there again! 
It is worth noting that this business is separate from the camp site and wedding business.

Excellent Hosts

This little cafe is located in an old farmhouse, away from the B&B, artists' studios and camping ground. Of course, you can sit inside, even if it's beautifully decorated, but on a sunny day, the garden is the main attraction you shouldn't miss. The cafe is the unofficial cream tea king. Everything is homemade and the cream is made by hand. I've swallowed a lot of cream teas, but this was without a doubt the best I've ever had. The drive to the hidden cafe has gone full.
