Lovely spotlessly clean cosy rooms with en-suite, very comfortable, nice neat rooms and comfy beds, central location perfect for everything, town centre on doorstep and beaches ten mins away. Stairs to property and up to rooms so may not be suitable for disabled. 

We booked a three night stay at this lovely guesthouse and were rewarded by a very clean and comfortable room at the front of the property, with an en-suite bathroom. We were very close to the town centre with all the amenities you would want, and within ten minutes walk of a dozen cafes and restaurants which served very good food. This is an excellent place for either s short break or a longer trip, with plenty to see and do in Scarborough itself and close to other coastal towns and the North York Moors, which were stunning! We will definitely be back!

We booked via Booking.com, just needed somewhere to stay for a few nights.
Was very reasonably priced, upon arrival we'd arrived earlier than check in, owner was great and stored our luggage in our room until it was time to check-in so we had a look around.
We were out from morning until evening but the room was lovely and spacious.
We would definitely stay here again

Had a great 3 night short stay at The Captain's Town House Guesthouse. We got a fairly large double room to front of property overlooking the street - not much of a view but being central is the bonus, a walk to the sea takes approx 10mins through the town centre. 
The place is a bit dated but room was clean and bed was firm & comfy - we slept very well. They do not provide food here but a cafe is 5 doors down or wetherspoons just round the corner,many more places to eat all over, great location for restaurants also. I recommend Florio's Italian just round the corner, was packed out at weekend but worth the wait.
Owner's friendly enough very straight forwards, gaves us the keys to rooms after sorting out parking permits, which at £3 per day, cheaper than the on street meters.
Overall very happy and would stay again.

Great central town house guesthouse

Close to everything!

Lovely central guest house

The hotel was well situated within 100 yds of the main pedestrian precinct.
However, our room was at the to of the b&b up a lot of stairs.  It was a room with the sink in the bedroom and a cupboard like toilet/ shower.
Everything was very basic, although there was tea/coffee/kettle/mugs provision.  The bedclothes seemed very tired as did the towels

Clean but very basic

The hotel is centrally located in the town center and is a 2min walk from the train station. 
On entering the property, it is immaculate. There was no dust, cobwebs or anything out of the ordinary. 

If anything the property was a little dated, It would be a great hotel if it had fresh new features.

The room itself was okay. I spacious double room with en suite facilities, tea/coffee and flat screen TV. 
The en suite did let the room down, quite a small room and the shower didn't work that well (the temperature went from Baltic cold to scolding hot). 

The owner of the hotel was lovely, he called me a couple of days earlier to inform me of the new parking regulations and gave me some ideas of where to park (the train station car park which is £4.20 for 24hours). On arrival he was friendly and assertive. 

Personally, I think breakfast should be included, even if it was just cereal, yogurt and fruit with a pot of filter coffee/tea/juice for guests to help them selves. I think that would make a difference. 

Overall It was a comfortable stay, perfect for our weekend away and exploring the local area and the open air theater.

Average Hotel

The hallway and entrance smells of wet dogs , the room was advertised as newly refurbished , but did not say when , because it was not recent !!! 
Light and shaver point does not work above the basin , curtains will not close properly , and a major problem with seagulls making a lot of noise at night , and through the night ! 
guest house in a good position for town center , but really that is it

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the captain's guest house.First impression was that it is a dated property,accessible by quite a lot of steps,not ideal for elderly or disabled guests and not particularly welcoming.The location of the guest house is good,very central and close to the railway station.  The lobby of the guest house has a disgusting smell of wet dog,very offensive but thankfully this smell didn't extend to our room. We had booked a recently refurbished room with en suite , flat screen tv and tea and coffee facilities. In reality the room was very dated,the ensuite was a tiny cupboard with shower and toilet and a sink in the bedroom.We had to ask for cups as none had been provided.
This property is badly in need of a refurbishment,it's an old property and needs a lot of work doing to it to bring it into this century.Not one I will be returning to or recommending to friends and family



Very dated and unpleasant aroma

Disgusting, unclean, smells like wet dogs. I saw rats at the bin shed which was overflowing with rubbish and I could smell it from my room if I open my window for fresh air and all the seagulls and birds circle over the bins 24/7 making a lot of noise, you can't relax for 5 minutes here, would NOT recommend.
Over priced little room that looked like it hadn't been cleaned or done up since 1980 yet claimed to be refurnished, which is obviously a lie.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND, 0/5 STARS, TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE, DISGUSTING PLACE TO LIVE, Never again would i stay here.

Absolutely appalling. The place smelled like wet dogs. The bedclothes looked like they had not had a thorough wash in donkeys years.
To say the room was basic would be giving too much praise. My wife and myself have never been so close it was that small.
Would definitely not recommend.
