My husband and I booked last minute to stay at Clayhill House B & B, so we got the last available room (Room 2) and I must say we were very pleasantly surprised with how large the room was.

On arrival at Clayhill House the first thing you notice is how busy the road is and how fast the traffic goes (coming from London where everything is pretty much 20 miles an hour now).  There is a small car park to the front/side of the property which easily fits four cars, but we had a transit van, so at times it could be a tight fit but we managed.

The house is a lovely whitewashed house with very pretty Wisteria climbing up the front and roses to the side. There is a little bird feeder and bird bath in the front garden which is lively to watch all the bird life in the mornings while having breakfast as the breakfast room overlooks the front garden.

Location is good, only a sort 10 minute stroll into Lyndhurst if you did not want to drive at all and Lyndhurst has some great restaurants, pubs, shops and cycle hire.

We were greeted by Chris, who was very hospitable, he showed us to our room, carrying our bags as well, explaining breakfast times etc.
The room was lovely, are large King bed (very comfortable, had a great sleep), lots of space, a small sitting room to the side as you enter with two very comfortable armchairs facing the TV, dressing table to the side, with well placed mirror and hairdryer. Plug sockets with USB chargers well placed in the room. Built in mirrored wardrobe, two bedside tables with bedside lamps.  Good hospitality tray with the usual tea, coffee etc and with the added bonuses of hot chocolate (husband loves that) and a few little chocolate treats (Cadburys Fudge and Kitkat), plus butter mints.  there was also a large bottle of still water (tap) and two glasses.  Would have preferred fresh milk, but understand you cannot keep that cold in the room so UHT pots provided, but you can ask Chris for some fresh milk and he happily obliges.

The en-suite Shower room lets the room down a little, as it is very small, but had everything you could want in a shower room.  Shower was hot and powerful, shower gel and shampoo supplied in dispensers in the shower and a separate bottle of conditioner in the shower. Small sink with liquid soap supplied, plus a small bar of Lux soap, cotton wool balls and buds supplied on the dressing table in the sitting area of the bedroom.  Towels were large (Bath sheets as opposed to bath towels) and small hand towels of good quality, and a flannel/wash cloth is also provided.

Breakfast menu had a good choice, full English, Scrambled Egg and Smoked Salmon, Boiled Eggs with Soldiers,etc and any combination of them could be provided, no problem.  All breakfasts were very good and tasty, eggs from their own chickens in the back garden,  Fresh local preserves and honey readily available and also for sale if wanted.  I believe the bread/toast was freshly made on the premises as we often smelt bread baking and other good things being cooked by Chris - great chef.

We really enjoyed our 3 nights stay and our morning chats with Christ our host and we will definitely be returning when we next get the chance.

The only downside to this B & B is the road noise if you have a room to the front, but during the night it quietens down considerably and did not affect our sleep at all (and my husband is quite a light sleeper).

Stay here, you will not be disappointed.

PLEASANTLY SURPRISED - GREAT STAY

A wonderful visit to a home away from home! This is my first time staying here and it was on business, the hosts were kind and caring as well as very informative about the local area as I wanted to walk into lyndhurst. About 20 mins on pavements into the town and many delicious local pubs! The room was fantastic, fitted with anything and everything I could want, it felt very thought out and comfortable. I agree with the other reviews about the road however if you are okay sleeping with that then it shouldn't ever be too loud, there is a room away from the road to try. I want to thank my wonderful hosts when I left my keys to the bnb in my car that got locked into a carpark they were all too willing to help even when they were out to dinner, I made it back safe although rather embarrassed.

Home away from home

Lovely comfortable B&B with friendly and knowledgeable hosts. Breakfasts are excellent…plenty of local produce and fresh eggs from the hens in the garden.  We stayed in the larger room with view over the forest….a really comfortable nights sleep and nice touches with biscuits and sweets. Room cleaned daily to a high standard. No reservations in recommending Clayhill House for a great location and lovely, friendly stay. There is also a pub, the Crown & Stirrup only a few steps from the B&B which does excellent food.  All in all, a great place to stay 

Lovely comfortable B&B in the heart of the New Forest

We spent two delightful nights care of  Margaret and Chris at Clayhill House. The welcome was warm, the room was spotless and the breakfast was top quality! We were attending the Smoked and Uncut festival at the nearby Lime Wood Hotel and the B and B was a very pleasant walk away!  Highly recommended!

Great find!

As first time visitors to the New Forest, we were made immediately welcome at this charming B&B. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable while the breakfast was generous and tasty. We were given plenty of tourist suggestions and were made to feel that nothing was too much effort. Highly recommended!

A delightful stay

We booked two rooms for a 3 night break The rooms were spotless and the owners were helpful and attentive Our breakfast was excellent setting us up well for the day There was a good choice of food on the breakfast menu and nothing was too much trouble If you are fit and able Lyndhurst is easily reached on foot otherwise by car Lyndhurst is a nice village but badly in need of a bye pass Having said that people have been saying one is needed for over 60 years It’s an ideal position for exploring the forest And if you want to explore on foot then you can start within 200 yards where you have access to one area  We would have absolutely no hesitation in going back to stay despite the traffic Thank You for a very nice stay

A really nice break

My wife found Clayhill House as we were looking at options for a quiet weekend in the New Forest, and wanted something other than an Air BnB.
Clayhill House is a classic style BnB, in Chris and Margaret's home, perfectly located to explore the nearby area either on foot or by car. Located just outside Lyndhurst, you can easily walk into town in 20 minutes or go further afield. That being said, it is on the main road and traffic is pretty constant, so it will all depend on your tolerance for that - we slept really well and found the room at the front (3) without issue.
Chris was a very quiet host (Margaret even more so as we never got to meet her!) but very helpful and friendly - We discovered that their son does foraging courses local to us so I will sign up to one soon - with ability to make local recommendations.
The Bed element of our stay was very comfortable, with a decent size room, good wardrobe and drawer space and whilst the bathroom was a little compact, the shower was of great strength.
The Breakfast was delicious (and as we discovered, quite healthy as Chris does it all in the Airfry!), and we both tried both the full English (great quality produce - but no beans) and the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, and everything was well cooked and very tasty.
Perfect stay for a short New Forest getaway!

We stayed here for 2 nights. Excellent b&b with lovely hosts in an excellent location for exploring  the New Forest. The rooms are clean and comfortable and have everything you could need for an overnight stay. The breakfast was the best I have had! We will definitely be back.

Lovely B&B

We've recently stayed here ahead of a friends wedding. What a delightful b&b in the heart of the New Forest. 

We stayed in Room 1 which was ample in size and contained all the amenities you could need! A large, extremely comfortable bed. The road noise outside is soon drowned out by the double glazing and heavy curtains. 

After a fantastic nights sleep, it was down to breakfast. Fantastic selection and the ingredients were excelleny quality. 

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is in the area!
