The Granary Larkbeare Grange

We had the pleasure of staying at Larkbeare Grange for three nights at the start of this year and can wholeheartedly recommend it to others. 

Every detail was top notch: a very warm welcome on arrival, an exceptionally comfortable room and bed, delicious breakfasts each morning, roaring fire in the sitting room each afternoon and addictive homemade biscuits. Julia and Charlie have a beautiful home and we feel lucky to have had the chance to experience it for a few nights.

Stayed here while friends were renting adjacent Larkbeare Granary. Julia & Charlie were excellent, helpful but unobtrusive hosts. Very comfortable bed and brilliant choice of breakfast in a lovely old building set in gorgeous countryside. If you love old buildings (very Jane Austen) stay in the Grange, if you like the ultra modern then rent the Granary. I’ve done both and found they were very different experiences but equally delightful.

My wife and I normally visit Devon in the depths of winter, but fancied a summer trip for a change. Larkbeare Grange was the perfect base for visiting the National Trust properties A La Ronde and Killerton (amongst others) nearby and it's also handy for  Exeter, Topsham, Dartmoor and further afield. This is a beautiful, welcoming, spotlessly clean and well-run house with delicious breakfasts (the most memorable eggs I've had in a long time)  and comfortable rooms. We can't wait to go back.

My partner and I were recently lucky enough to take a trip to Larkbeare Grange for a second time. It seems like this place just gets better and better with every visit! 
Charlie and Julia are so welcoming and helpful - we never felt like a burden and instead felt so at home in their lovely bed and breakfast. 
We’d both had quite busy and stressful times at work so a relaxing getaway was much needed and that’s exactly what we got! The beds are incredibly comfortable. I personally struggle with pillows in most hotels but had no issues here - they were perfect and allowed me to have the restful sleep I needed. 
Breakfast was delicious! Charlie’s homemade croissants were buttery, flakey and warm. It’s also very clear to see that they only use the best ingredients and make everything themselves. 
We couldn’t recommend this beautiful place more - perfect for a relaxing getaway, surrounded by some of the country’s most idyllic landscapes.

We have just returned from a great 4 night stay at Larkbeare. Hosts Julia and Charlie gave us a very warm welcome and served tea and homemade scones in the drawing room. Everything was done to perfection. our bedroom (West Room) was spotless and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and offered an extensive choice. Larkbeare is in an excellent location and Julia and Charlie have a comprehensive list of places to visit and suggestions for eating out. This was our first visit which more than lived up to our expectations - we look forward to returning.


We had a wonderful stay Larkbeare Grange. The room was brilliantly arranged for a family with an interconnecting door and family sized bathroom, with lovely towels and toiletries. The beds were very comfortable and Charlie and Julia were so kind with the children - even making bread with them after breakfast! They couldn’t have been more welcoming. Highly recommended! 

Lovely hosts, stayed in the Granary, which very comfortable. As a disabled person our hosts were unfazed by  a delivery of oxygen and were very welcoming and supportive. We had a glorious time and once found is well worth the experience (Listen to the hosts instructions). Comfortable beds, swallows and a hay bailer, what more could you ask for? A minimalist building and all the better for it

We have now stayed many times at Larkbeare Grange and it is always a refreshing and comfortable stay. They have been running Larkbeare for many years, and Charlie and Julia continue to be enthusiastic and kindly hosts who pay excellent attention to detail.
Breakfast is tailor-made to each guest's preferences and the ingredients are superb  - home made bottled plums,fantastic fresh eggs,warm home made bread,home made jams and marmalade (available to buy too)..as well as full English breakfast. Rooms are very clean and beds incredibly comfortable. The restful green views through Georgian sash windows, antique furniture, and charming garden embody a real rural retreat.

Our second stay. Another pleasant three nights in quiet Devon. Julia and Charlie are excellent hosts, very helpful. The South room is splendid, roomy with a great pasture view. Large sofa. Proper shower. First rate breakfasts, especially the cheese omelette. Excellent restaurant tips. Just be sure to follow the provided directions to the Grange or you may wander about the narrow lanes in bewilderment. Once you master it, though, you’ll look for the lights of Larkbeare welcoming you home at night.

A Georgian house with beautiful, elegant rooms in an idyllic rural location run by wonderful hosts who leave no stone unturned in order to make you feel at home. We loved our two nights here, they were a real treat. The room was lovely,  as was the bathroom. Both were spotless. Our hosts went out of their way to accommodate our 2 year and the breakfast with homemade jams, bread and croissants  was a joy. We cannot recommend Larkbeare enough, our best B&B experience by far. Thank you Charlie and Julia.
