Lovely roast dinner with huge portions!

We had the vegetarian and the beef roasts, both were honestly so delicious. Everything was cooked perfectly. I loved the Yorkshire puddings and the roast potatoes.

 I really recommend it if you’re looking for somewhere to have a nice meal!!

We use the Swan regularly for rambles, and are never disappointed.  The wecome is always warm, and the food is well cooked and very tasty.  Of particular note are the garlic mushrooms, which are to die for.  The hot chocolate is equally amazing.  Phone ahead to check David (landlord) is open, but also plan it around a walk; there are plenty of well marked footpaths nearby.

Just ten minutes by cat/taxi from the airport less than 4 miles as that good old crow flies. I needed somewhere close to the airport and station for a trip into London.

Arrived and pub was warm and friendly. Room stayed in was Old Ben it was just as you'd hope to see in a traditional inn. The port was a good touch and was a welcome nightcap. Bathroom was great and a hot bath got me ready for the day. Food was excellent.

Love to come back for longer than a short overnight stay.

The Swan is a lovely traditional English pub with very comfortable individual rooms. The beds are comfortable and clean and there is plenty of space. Everything was spotlessly clean (but it is an old pub so it’s not clinical!)Tea, coffee, shortbread biscuits, port and mineral water was provided but oddly no milk. Masses of storage space in the bedroom but perhaps an extra hook or shelf in the bathroom would be useful. Very comfortable nights sleep but the pub is very close to the airport so a little aircraft noise should be expected. Breakfast was amazing, plenty of everything, excellent coffee, very well cooked and extensive breakfast, delicious jam and marmalade and fantastic service. Wonderful!

A wonderful warm welcome on arrival. My room (Sunchaser) was large and had a very comfy sofa. The bathroom is also large and when you get used to the slopes in the floors (it's a very old building) it was great. A comfortable and quiet night's sleep after a freshly cooked meal. 
Breakfast was also very good. Again freshly cooked and with a good choice of cereal and fruit juice and lovely coffee
Yes the whole place could do with a refurb and a tidy up. But if you want a warm welcome and good food I'd definitely give it a try

I try where possible to support small businesses  instead of using the big hotel chains when I am on the road. Pubs with rooms can be hit and miss, especially around noise from the bar etc but I found a real gem here. For £30 a night I got a good size room away from the bar, clean tidy bedding, heating on when I got there, and a nice bathroom. Yes the room was not modern furniture, yes the room slanted down one way so the head of the bed was slightly lower than the foot (but dont worry blood did not run to your head!), BUT it was nice in a local village pub sort of way. 
The bar was friendly, I did not feel like an outsider, the food was quick and tasty (I ordered a Stilton Ploughmans which was really nice) and for breakfast I asked for just a bacon sandwich which was cooked fresh along with really nice coffee.
Would I stay there again? Yes, would I recommend it? Yes
Why only 4 starts instead of 5? If they invested in some newer bed linen and a few more pillows it would set the room up a treat. It did not feel like I was sleeping in old dirty linen, it just felt a bit tired and a small touch in refreshing that would make the final difference.

Needed a hotel near Stansted as had customers arriving in the morning and chose The Swan as I was arriving 7.30pm and wanted somewhere for a one stop “eat and sleep”. Lovely old property with rooms above the pub - my room was very generous, full of old world charm and the 12’x12’ bathroom must have dropped 15” from the door to the opposite corner. Both the evening food in the bar and breakfast were great - I had traditional local ham, eggs and chips, really tasty and washed down with a couple of pints of real ale - steady stream of locals eating and drinking. Breakfast was of good quality and lovely and fresh. WiFi and phone signal a bit poor, but that’s the charm or a rural establishment. All this at an extremely reasonable price - definitely recommend.

Amazing roast dinners and food

Very Small tasteless starters and desserts with the Sunday roast . The gravy had caught and tasted burnt . No choice of white wine only the 1 house white unless you buy a whole bottle for £24 . The actual.roast dinner was large and yorkshire , potatoes and meat were tasty but red cabbage was horrible.  Wouldn't return . After all the hype concerning the food here it left us very disappointed sadly .

A let down

It’s hard when writing a review of a place you didn’t enjoy not to offend the owners. 
Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this pub or the rooms. 
I stay in hotels, pubs, B&Bs most nights of the week, so I do have some experience. 
The room was cold, looked dated, the bed was uncomfortable, and the sheets where a blanket with a bed sheet underneath. I woke up freezing in the morning.
When staying in a hotel, pub or B&B I expect the cleanliness to be the same as I would expect in my home. Unfortunately this didn’t live up to my expectations. The room was dirty, the smell was odd. 

The reason I have given this an average and not a poor is that the food here was okay, evening meal was standard but the breakfast was really good. 

Nice polite staff, 

I wouldn’t stay here again.

I must be living in some sort of parallel universe if people think this place is worthy of more than one star.
Grubby curtains, very delapedated bed, thread bare towels and cobwebs to name a few things. 
A pleasant host cannot compensate for dirty room. I understand the building is old but that doesn't mean it has to equipped with items that look like they also date from that era and complete with authentic dirt.
