The Punch Bowl

Family run establishment in a rural location, and nothing is too much trouble for staff there. Our room was spotless and very comfortable, and the food was very well presented and cooked. Very laid back atmosphere, and nice to have a chat with the family who own and run the premises. The Punch Bowl is very highly recommended, for those who appreciate genuine hospitality  and friendly service. Something that is a rare find these days.

My wife and I stayed for our annual visit to Kendal with our friends . The food is excellent, well cooked and presented at reasonable prices , with a good selection of. Well stocked bar , comfortable rooms with everything that is required . Above all are the excellent staff , who bend over backwards to be helpful, they work tirelessly to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. All in all a fantastic weekend, thank you !

This was my second stay at the Punch Bowl. There are two rooms called Helm and Natland. The Natland is the best as it is nearer to the back, lovely views out of the window. A lovely, comfy, homely room, well stocked tea, coffee and the owners always provide lovely biscuits and also a bottle of water for each guest. A nice comfy bed, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. Extremely clean, walk in shower in the bathroom. Lovely fluffy towels. We had our meals there on both nights, generous portions and empty plates. The apple crumble is delicious. Staff are lovely. Breakfast is a good choice, porridge, yogurts, cooked breakfast including vegetarian. Nothing is too much trouble.The weather wasn't too bad either. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely great place to stay. One of the friendliest places we've stayed. Rooms very good and cosy.
Food and pub also excellent. Stayed here on our motorbikes and owners even made room for us to park in the secure area beside the pub, 

We stayed with friends for the first time at the Punch Bowl for the weekend . We were welcomed with open arms by the owners from the word go they could not do enough for us . All the staff were very friendly and obliging, wonderful! The rooms were lovely everything we needed was there , comfy bed and a great shower . The food was magnificent and plenty of it ! In short a fantastic stay ! Thank you all . We will be back !

The food is lovely, but make sure you are hungry! The portions are generous and there is plenty of choice. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of ingredients and home cooking.

Stayed here for 2 nights, ideally located for local attractions. The Punchbowl is not far from the M6 and just a short distance from Kendal. There is an Asda store just before Kendal, in case you forget something for your break. We were staying in the Lake District for a family wedding and staff were fine about us being back late. I would highly recommend a stay at the Punchbowl, Lynn and her staff are great, nothing was too much trouble. We arrived on the Friday and had our evening meal there. Portions are generous, chef did me a salad as I'm fussy and didn't want any of the vegetarian options. My Aunt and cousin also joined us for dinner and they enjoyed their meals as well.  Our room was lovely, very clean, homely and everything that you need. The bed was really comfortable and had a lovely view out of the window. Breakfast is included and you have a choice of juice, cereals, yogurt,cooked breakfast(including vegetarian), also scrambled eggs and salmon, porridge etc. I asked for poached eggs on the last morning which were lovely. The toast was good as well. You are given a warm welcome and a warm goodbye. I have booked again to stay with a friend.

We visited the Punch Bowl last week to celebrate a family birthday occasion 

Staff were very welcoming and pleasant, plenty of choice for food and drink and the food was superb! Portions were brilliant and definitely ‘home cooked’ food.

Lovely weekend break.
We stayed here for two nights and had a really lovely time.  From the minute we walked through the door there was such a nice atmosphere. 
Every member of the team was so friendly & welcoming. We ate at the pub both nights & had delicious home cooked meals & the breakfasts were just as good.
We had fantastic nights sleep - immaculate room, comfy bed, nice white bedding & towels , everything was perfect , couldn’t fault anything. 
Would highly recommend & will definitely return.

Was looking for dog friendly pub as it was bonfire night.. was looked after brilliantly  got a little alcove type table were . Yes are 4 lurchers were able to chill while we had lovely scampi.  Chips. Lovely chocolate ice cream dessert. Nice real ale.  Perfect

Weekend walking break

Really excellent. From the start everything was so good, always exceeding expectations. Lynn and staff were so accommodating, really valuing my stay. The bedroom was very comfortable with a great shower room. A little bit of road noise in the morning. The cooked breakfast was great, dinner was a Cajun chicken salad which was moist and tender with good flavours. Really enjoyed my stay.

Having dropped in here without prior booking for a late afternoon lunch, my husband and I were not disappointed .
With a friendly greeting, we were ushered to a table where our drinks order was taken while we pondered over the menu.
My husband chose the lamb Henry while I chose two smaller meals of cheesy garlic bread and prawn baguette and side salad.
The portions were plentiful and in my Husbands own words “ one of the best lamb Henry’s I’ve ever tasted”
He finished every morsel on his plate with gusto .
I on the other hand, thoroughly enjoyed every morsel of my cheesy garlic bread and a very juicy prawn baguette.
My husband had a lager while I had a large Diet Pepsi.
The bill was less than we expected.
We were over the moon with the food and we will definitely be back soon for more delicious food.
Well done to all the staff and management on providing fabulous food at great prices.

Fantastic location for south Lakes and Kendal.
The rooms are gorgeous and clean with good sized showers, everything you would need is catered for.
We were welcomed from the word go and nothing was too much trouble 
Being in a pub is so convenient as you don’t have to drive out for a drink or to eat as everything is just downstairs meaning no one has to be the designated driver so everyone can enjoy their break 
The menu has a good choice of dishes with specials to compliment the choice a real bonus if you are staying more than a couple of days, there is also a singing and dancing coffee machine so you can finish your meal with a fantastic coffee
The bar is well stocked with all the favourite beers as well as a couple of cask local ales 
We booked. Bed & Breakfast and the breakfast was cooked to perfection exactly as we asked for and freshly prepared 
We have stayed in many venues of varying styles but this one is a real gem and we would highly recommend it to anyone

Great location and a real gem

I called into The Punch Bowl in Barrows Greenon my way out of Kendal, after attending a Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade there. I was made to feel extremely welcome by the Staff who were also very respectful towards my Military Uniform. So I decided to have more than just a drink and stayed for Lunch. There was a good selection on the Menu as well as some very tempting "Specials" to be had. But I decided upon a traditional Roast Beef Dinner. The staff wete extremely attentive without being intrusive while I awaited the arrival of my Dinner. My Roast Beef Dinner arrived in a timely fashion, which was well presented, piping hot, with a good selection of fresh vegetables and very flavoursome. It was an excellent meal and competitively priced, which is probably why there were half a dozen families consisting of 3 and 4 people eating there on my visit as eell as about 5 couples. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending the Punch Bowl, and fully intend to visit it again very soon to try it's evening menu.
