This was our second stay here and it was every bit as good as our first stay. The location and setting are quiet and peaceful and the view over Appenzell is great. The rooms are large and very clean. The breakfast has a nice variety of food, and we enjoyed it so much that we rarely ate lunch. We ate dinner at the hotel every night and had something different each night, and every meal was excellent. We travel all around Switzerland and this is one of our favorite hotels. Thank you Robert and Barbara for making our stay so enjoyable.

Great Place!

The hotel dominates the whole town of Appenzell. The kitchen is neat and excellent. The staff is discreet and friendly. The room is large with terrace, living room, large bathroom.

Nice and nice hanging hotel

The hotel staff and owners were fantastic and the rooms were spacious and clean. The food was excellent and the chef/ Owner, Robert  and his wife work hard to make the hotel in our view a 4 star rated facility. We found the hotel to be much better than some of our USA hotels that we have stayed over the years. As for transportation from the train Bahn to the hotel and vice versa was provided by Robert and his wife. You do not get this kind of personal service in the USA.  The area of Appenzell is beautiful with great hiking and at day's end a hotel to look forward too relax and dine. A big five to all at the Freudenberg!!! Thank you for the experience!

52nd Anniversary and vacation

I had a very comfortable room with full bath, balcony with a view over the town (preferred to stay here rather than in the town as quieter but still close).  The set dinner was outstanding as was the breakfast buffet which had beautifully arranged fruit of all kinds, yoghurt, cereals, eggs cooked to order, ham, cheese etc.   Honestly cannot fault my stay.   The lift came in handy as well after hiking in the mountains!

Lovely view and excellent food

The view from the large terrace is the first to be noticed, the view over Appenzell is fantastically beautiful. The food is attractive and also offers something for the eye. Tastefully well tasted with exceptional ideas such as a small spring roll filled with red weed. The dessert tray was a force! Only the meat should have been hotter. Friendly, noteworthy staff. Please come back!

Exceptional

I had searched TripAdvisor for a place to stay in Appenzell.  The hotel was perfect.  Just outside of town within easy walking distance.  Room was nicely decorated and comfortable.  We had read good reviews about the restaurant.  However, it was booked out the night we were there.  We found a lot of places in Appenzell.  I was concerned about noise from the wedding party.  The room was absolutely quiet.  My remarked how nice our stay was there.  We would definitely stay again.

Great find

One of the really great and original Swiss hotels! - Zi 15 (large, balcony, great view) - Zi 14 with old painted appendage bed, EZ Very fine food, great attentive and friendly service by boss, boss and service. Fine multi-purpose menus on the last evening even with free choice from the whole map. Very large garden area to sit outdoors and enjoy the perfect view. Parking right in front of the house 3 or 4 nights Appellerbahn, div. museums, mountain slopes with it. Apoenzellerbahn about 8 minutes on foot.

Great days in Freudenberg with three

Although we did not stay in the hotel our b&b made the recommendation for dinner. We had a fantastic evening! The views over Appenzell are stunning, even on a foggy rainy evening the view was good, until the heavy rain started. The staff were very kind and welcoming as were the local guests. The food was lovely, well presented and large portions. There were heaters to warm the outside seating area which was a very good idea as it made a great atmosphere. 
While you can drive up it’s only about 15 minute walk from the village. It’s a steep hill though so be prepared. Worth a visit!

Restaurant with a view

Very good hotel with super nice hosts and staff. Also price performance was very good. Very big gardening with superb views. Breakfast was regional and well we didn't miss any eggs from the kitchen.

Accommodation

We were very welcomed and were able to choose from three menus or a la carte. The food was fine, adequate and beautifully presented. The taste was solidly good. The highlight is the great view of the city and surroundings from the garden terrace. We will be happy to eat there again.
