After a great day, a nice and clean hotel is what one needs. So disappointed to find more flies in the hotelroom then at the local fishmarket. They came along with the terrible smell of mold from the bathroom. The carpet was very sticky so shoes were on until we went to bed. This room didn't see any cleaning or fresh air in a long time. Diner was cold and nothing special at all, though breakast was compared to the rest o.k.  Location is near the lake but on a hill, where you can hear a waterfall all night.
Unless you have no other option pass this hotel and book something else !! this is a disgrace for the other fine hotels in Sri Lanka

the worst hotel ever

Don't book this hotel unless there's no other one availible in the area. 

If the tens of flighs in your room won't put you off, the terrible smell (and sight) of fungus in the bathroom will! The dinner is the worst we've had in Sri Lanka, althought the breakfast was similair as in other hotels. 

This hotel is also known as the Melford Heaven Hotel. Don't be fooled by there pretty website.

Never again

My wife myself and one other couple stayed in melford heaven in july 2015 where we got the upper floor with a good and excellent view of the lake and mountains arround which was very pleasant the room was really big and comfortable with large beds and mini bar which was really helpful and the garden out side was well maintained we enjoyed a B.B.Q night.The staffs and the manager was so kind and helpful to us in any request it was a wonderful stay really a home away home.The restaurant was arranged with lots of candle lights for our dinner really we felt that we were in heaven thats the specialty of melfordheaven dinner was awesome do not  miss it for ever.

A WARM STAY IN COOL CLIMATE

It was a terrible hotel to stay. The name is "Melford Heavens". its not even a 2 star. There's so much of dampness in the room and the flooring is dirty the washroom is tacky with no warm water. Would recommend not to stay unless and until all the hotels of Nuwara Eliya is full. The only plus point of this hotel was their food. They served fantastic food from dinner to breakfast. The staff was also good but unless and until you dont enjoy your stay whats the use.

Worst hotel in such a beautiful place....

This hotel also goes under the name of 'Melford Heaven', which is ironical as it is far from heavenly. If you look at the websites for Melford Heaven or for The Gregory House, you will get an impression of luxury, good service etc. However, this is not the case. The rooms are very dated with lots of broken bits of furniture (including broken bits of glass, which is not great when travelling with kids). It is Fawlty Towers-esque: it was chilly, so we were provided with a heater but it did not work, the Wifi worked for perhaps 2 minutes of our 2 night stay, the staff's English seemed unreliable as they didn't seem to understand our queries, the shower screen did not close due to a misplaced screw, there was a plug socket in the shower, which was odd/potentially dangerous. We stayed in a room at the top of the house and we could clearly hear that pigeons were walking on the false ceiling (under the roof) and as a tile of this false ceiling was missing in the shower room, there was the odd pigeon feather in the shower room. We ate dinner there the first evening, but avoided eating there afterwards: the food was extremely average (the worst we had in Sri Lanka), the service was painfully slow although there were only two tables and we had pre-ordered our meal over an hour before sitting down. They recommended we ordered a side of rice so we did, but then it turned out that all the dishes came with rice or fries already, so it was wasted. Breakfast was the most basic of any hotel we stayed at but it took them over 45 minutes to bring it all - we had left the table before the end. I could go on. All in all, a very disappointing stay. Avoid if you can.

Poor stay at this hotel

We were very disappointed in The Gregory House. The price/performance ratio was not right at all. CHF 70.- per night without breakfast was completely overpriced. The course of our shower was clogged, which caused a small flood in the bathroom and a bad smell. Although the problem was still fixed the same day but the bathroom was left dirty. The rooms were also not really clean, it was wet, dark and our view was against a concrete wall. The staff showed no interest during our entire stay. The breakfast was too expensive with RS 1500 for a café, toast, mirror ledge and ban. We won't be coming again!

The price-performance ratio is not right at all!

We spent the night in this guest house after reading the complimentary comments on Trip Advisor...We were disappointed...The rooms are large but wet, breakfast was not included in the price and the guest house is not very close to the center of Nuwara Eliya.

The average...

Unfortunately, I can't agree with the overwhelming criticism. We also had some difficulty finding the hotel because there is no sign. We had a room on the first floor where you can unfortunately hear the conversations of the guests in the adjacent dining room. The room itself was quite small, a large, comfortable bed with mosquito net, but it didn't fit in. The bathroom was modernly furnished, but unfortunately not very clean. The two men who work there were very friendly with us and helped us with all our problems and wishes. However, I would close with my speaker: You make me feel like there's no one in the house except one. When we went back, we didn't have any other people standing in the room and then we just left a key in the hallway.

After 30 minutes of searching (the phone number of the hotel does not exist, there is no house number or other sign and no local knows this hotel) we found ourselves in a completely empty house, which was apparently still in the middle of construction. The gentleman, who probably did not expect us, led us into our double room. Unfortunately the windows could not be closed and because of the moist, cold air in Nureliya was both wet and everything else smelled very muddy. On the ceiling of the bathroom we also found a large chimney.

Here everything is just right! Clean rooms that remind us of a luxury hotel rather than a guesthouse, great food and above all a host and team that doesn't leave any wishes open! Dinesh, the host, was already waiting for us at the entrance of the property and welcomed us warmly. We were quickly taken to our room, which was also an upgrade. So we stayed for two days in the best room with sea view. To receive us, the chef provided us with a bag of soup - super. Dinesh was able to answer all the questions during the stay and helped us where we were going. The thickest scratches Sri Lanka, scented laundry and towels lit our batteries during the two days in Nuwara, so that there is no miracle that we would ever come back again!
