On a recent trip to Jhb we were put up in this “Guest House” As you walk in you can see it’s African Themed decor is outdated, you can smell the dust & floors are dirty. When you enter the rooms it’s pretty much the same thing, outdated, unwelcoming & dusty. I didn’t feel relaxed or comfortable at all. When we eventually did try fall asleep, at 9.30, (the beds are hard & have broken springs!) we were greeted with a huge spider 🕷 on the wall! I have a phobia & was terrified. After several attempts to phone the ‘manager’ and get some help to remove it they finally came only with a bad attitude telling us if we don’t like it we must pack our bags & go!! Never have I ever been spoken to like that especially as a “guest” of this establishment. 
Totally disgusting & unacceptable. 
Don’t stay here if you have a choice there are plenty of other more pleasant places to stay in Randburg. 

Outdated Unwelcoming & Dusty

I would not recommend this to anyone. We were welcomed by a guy who appeared to be the gardener (in his work suit) and was doubling up as receptionist. Upon enquiry we were advised that we could not come and go as we pleased as there were not enough remote controls for the gate.This guy would have to open for us each time. 

We arrived quite late in the day and it was obvious the room we had booked about a month in advance had been allocated to someone else.  We ended up in "Balcony" (I think it was called) which must be the smallest room on the premises. Apart from the size of the room we did not like the fact that the toilet and bathroom did not have a door and the place was generally dirty.

We did not see any members of management and had to deal with the cleaners who were still cleaning some of the rooms as late as 4:00 in the afternoon. We were fortunate enough to quickly find alternative accommodation and decided to leave about an hour after our arrival. The workers did not seem surprised or concerned to see us leave.

This was a really bad, albeit very brief, experience and we will certainly not be going back there.

Very disappointed.

This has to be one of the hidden gems of the world.  An inner courtyard is enclosed in an oasis of beautiful trees, plants and quiet serenity and yet the staff are always on hand to assist, make you feel an honoured guest and provide.   The rooms are quirky, quaint and yet of a high quality, with everything a high standard of cleanliness and privacy.   The Olive Tree is in a quiet part of Johannesburg and is so much fun to visit, a balance of getting away from it all and yet being as sociable as you wish.   Do go and visit.

Warm and welcoming

The road leading to the guest House beautifully covered with trees. the guest house itself.. a holliday feel ... Its like going into the country getting back to your roots and feel the freedom of city life... YET you 5 minutes away... All the basics and each furniture piece not new tells a story.. You have to remember each room has a theme and the room has the feeling of country peace..  For me this is a place to find yourself, if you allow the the surroundings, trees birds and garden to free your spirit.. The staff are wonderful and go out of their way to accommodate you.. This is the place to spend a night or two to remember your roots and to stay humble.. Hosts are wonderful souls and a daughter that makes you smile on your worse day... thank you all

The Olive Tree Guest House. To give it justice I have to describe it ...

It was a three day business stay and and workshop. Workshop room was spacious and warm for the winter. However, the room was not neat, looks old, towels not replaced, sheets not changed on the bed. Smallest old analogue tv, didn't love the food. I will recommend the training room but will not recommend the guess rooms
